Charlie, I have done a couple of pieces on felt that framed pretty well. I used medium cutaway on the back, made the whole thing very stable, didn't stretch either in stitching or framing. Leave enough so you can wrap it around a piece of cardboard, like the back of a tablet, not like a box. I just taped mine down, worked really well. Good luck with your project! Marji
