These are very nice. Chenile is done with regular straight stitching.No embroidery designs, Sorry. With rows of stitching 1/2 inch apart it will look like straight Trapunto before cutting. It can be done horizontal, Veritcal or diagnal, the best part is that you can use cheep flannel for the top 3 layers. The more it frays the better. After all of the rows are stitched then you can cut the top three layers in between the rows of stitching. Wash and dry to fray. Be prepared for a mess in the W/D. this is similar to raggy quilts.

Thanks for your instructions. I have never made a blanket but I think I might manage to do this one. I will give it a try. I have some flannel that needs a project.

I have done this in cottons for a bag. The bottom layer a fairly heavy curtain fabric. Even bought a special roller blade for chenille. Was told to always stitch on the bias lines, in other words diagonally if you cut the material on the straight, because in doing so the fringes are nicer.Have seen some instructions on the internet as well. Have a look if I can find it again, I'm sure it was on some quilter's site.

Hey, great idea! I know you can get some cheapy-cheap flannel at Wal-Mart. I never got it because it's such a loose weave, but that would make it fray & fluff up all the more, right? They do have some neat ice-creamy colors, one layer of each, and the better quality flannel for the bottom piece. Do you cut each row with the scissors, or somehow fold it & use the rotary cutter? I'd be afraid to end up with "blanket slices", hee hee hee. Thanks again, luv ya, Marji
