I don't know what kind is best. I have used cotton and flannel with no problem. I'm sure that someone will come along shortly to answer your question better.

I'm with the rest of the girls.. cotton (and good cotton) and flannel material works best.

If you are going to embroider :) then use cotton, I suggest prewash first...then stitch and finally put blocks together, and quilt. If you use flannel then you might have problems with it stretching out of shape, unless you put quilt top together, then stitch and leave stabelizer on.

Cades4u, It looks like you have some great answers. If you do not know if you need pink or blue, Susan, how about some lav, yellows, and green? These will be wonderful for both sexes?? Hugs and flowers.

If it's to last an b an heirloom Cotton is your best bet. I made and posted one that I did 4 my Gr.Grand son the 1st of Apr. if U go way back n projects posted you'll find it. I used a neutral sq for the embroidery & then colors my grand daughter had decorated her nursery with. She knew she was to have a boy but did not use blues to decorate with. she chose Alaphabet soup as a theme & used all bright primary colors. I agree with the other cutes and would use a good quality cotton fabric.Ther are many colors that could be for either a boy or girl,like bright primary colors of green,orange,blue,red,& yellow or soft baby colors of yellow,mint green & blue. Welcome to Cute!
