L'un est une dentelle et l'autre (FSL) est plus quelque chose en dentelle qui est cousu uniquement sur un support soluble et que l'on peut utiliser ensuite comme objet décoratif (qui ne pas pas se découdre, c'est une technique particulière)à suspendre ou à poser. Alors que la dentelle(lace)reste accrochée à un tissus, soit à l'intérieur, soit sur les bords. Voilà la différence que je vois à l'usage. Amicalement.

Not all lace is FSL. It is very hard to tell by just looking at it. I usually know when I download it and save it in a FSL folder within the folder of where it is from: i.e. Cute Embroidery\FSL. Later usually once a month, I catalog my designs into a program that I bought several years ago from Ann the Gran. I understand there are programs that are less expensive out there, but this program has served me well and there isn't any point in changing now. The point I'm getting to is that I will never forget if the design is free standing or not. Anyway, that's the system that has worked for me. *4u

Oui, c'est important car si la dentelle n'est pas FSL, et que tu la brodes par exemple sur un support soluble, elle ne tiendra pas (se découdra)une fois le support dissout. Les FSL ont une finition spéciale qui fait qu'elles se tiennent de façon indépendante (par exemple, des petits sujets à suspendre dans le sapin, ou une corbeille, etc.)

No, you can have a design that is very lacy to look at but will fall apart if you do it on wss. A standard Lace design must be done on fabric of some kind. Freestanding will usually say it's freestanding or have FSL in the name.

You've got excellent answers. If in doubt sew on bridal net (tulle), organdi, or some other sheer material.

Hi, Claude! Martine gave you an excellent answer. If it says Free Standing Lace, it should be ok to sew it on Water soluble stabilizer, but if you're not sure, test it on tulle or organdy. Sometimes you can tell by the stitch count. If a rather small design has a very very high stitch count and says FSL, then it should be free standing lace. All those extra stitches are what forms the underlay for the lace to be built on and forms the connections that won't fall apart. If the stitch count is pretty normal, then it probably isn't Free Standing Lace, but a lacy design. This isn't a perfect method of knowing, but might help. If in doubt, test on material. Good luck!!
