Until I discovered machine embroidery, shellcraft was my passion. This card made me think that, perhaps,I could have the best of both worlds by combining the two hobbies together. The 'flowers' are made up of individual shells & dried heather makes up the stem. The FSL bow is from a set - 3D Bows - from Secrets of Embroidery, it can be removed from the card and sewn onto clothing or a pin stuck to the reverse to make a brooch.

Oh Elenu I had forgotten how much I use to love doing shellcrafts. The shell store n Ft Lauderdale use to b one of my favorite places to visit when I would go down to Englewood,Fl to visit my G. dad. Yrs ago, I bet I still have some of those shells packed away n my husbands workshop. This is beautiful. *4U

The artist in you just keeps on re-inventing yourself all over again. Your shell flowers remind me of the shell flowers my sister and I used to make into jewelry about 50 years ago. It was the rage for the kids back then. It does bring back lots of fond memories. *4u

Oh, I forgot to say, this is one of the best cards I have ever seen. Not just here, but anywhere! Thanks so much for sharing. :-)
by elenu 25 Aug 2008
Grannyo, I am overwhelmed by your comments, thank you. It is a very old craft, not popular these days, but I love it. I have never made jewelry, but have made lots of shell animals & my favourite, crinolin ladies. I encase them in glass 'boxes'. I'm pleased I have brought back memories for you.

Jean, this is absolutely stunning! I used to collect shells as a child, we had a lot on the beaches in Malta then. What a marvelous idea how to use them....... must search in my attic to find them cos I did bring the collection with me to Germany much to hubby's delight lol. *4u

Thank you Anna, Lovely to hear from you again. You knew those shells would be useful one day didn't you? The shell cards have a drawback with mailing - they do need a well padded box, whereas the shell crinoline lady is protected by her 'glass box'!
