Depending on how it stitches out, you can get anywhere from stripes to a tweed look. Test it on something first. I love them & use them often on things. Soon as I can get the teddy bears posted, check out the heart on one leg, striped, & the bear's nose. Both done in varigated threads. The nose is a circular stitch out, so it looks different from the heart. What brand is the thread?

I made an FSL bookmark in variegated thread, thought you might like to see it but i couldn't find it in projects, so hope you don't mind i uploaded pic here for you. I thought it turned out quite nice. hugs n roses, Meganne

I did some small flowers in veriegated thread as I liked the shape of the flowers but not the way the colours were stitched, they turned out lovely.

I bought several spool of verigated thread about 5 years about and have only used it once. I didn't like the way the design turned out. Thanks for asking this question. I think I'm going to experiment again.

NeedlePassionEmbroidery has some beautiful designs for variegated threads. I have used their shell designs and they are gorgeous (added some gold metallic for the accent stitching). Their designs stitch out beautifully. Lj

Names on children's items or the satin stitch outline of a badge can be quite striking in variegated colours, as can be a shirt of an animal or child, depending on the size it gets smaller or wider stripes.

miss charlie I've used it in several items of embroidery on clothes, burps etc, also used it with decorative stitches on a border of flowers. Ea. flower was a different color & it looked really good *4U

I use my varigated thread on my fairies for their hair and wings. Gives them a little more realistic look. Also wouldstitch out nice for flowers and vines. Just use the right shades of green and you've got great grass - the kind you mow! hahahaha anyway it's lots of fun to experiment. My only problem seems to be with the metallics. I love em but they don't seem to look right when stitched. Any suggestions?

Charlie, I use it for lots of things. Redwork, filled designs, outlines, you name it. Just be sure that the lightest or darkest shade of the thread doesn't get lost in the color of the material you're using. I did a darling vintage kitty from Embriodery Library in pink on pale blue flannel for a quilt block, but the palest part of the pink didn't show up too well on the blue. Still pretty and I like it, but not high contrast. I did it with a felt backing, so it looks like trapunto. That's all the thicker I'm going to make it, because the back will be flannel also, for a lap quilt. I know, sounds like a crib quilt, but it's for MY crib, hee hee hee. Marji

Not too long ago, www.emblibrary.com - came out with several designs, they are also in two packs, using variegated thread. I have not tried them, but they look really beautiful. They are not free, but reasonably priced.

DESIGNS IN STITCHES has a beautiful alphabet for variegated thread and it sewed out beautiful..and yes it is free....that's the best part....Hope I was able to post this.....
