It is al old hand type of stitching and is beautiful. You can now find it also in machine embroidery. The hand version used a French Knot for the dots.

Hello, sorry but, it is not a French Knot that is used but, a "Colonial Knot" where the cotton is wound around the needle similar to a figure "8". Always beautiful work,

Thanks for that info, I have only ever used the colonial knot. you learn something everyday.

Ricky, I went to her website, oh, my!!! That candlewick bedspread is just to die for. Wasn't 'candlewicking' named because of the heavy thread used, like the old wicks of candles? Or am I being far too imaginative again, hee hee hee. Best, Marji

No you aren't being imaginative. You are dead right. The pioneer women used the wicks out of candles and the canvas used for covered wagons .They produced beautiful work
