Play on words. Thai or "Tie" elephant was made using my husband's ties.In those days all I had was a Janome 8000 machine.An ELEPHANT NEVER FORGETS so that is why he is draped in medals and such. The medals range from my basketball days to Umpiring ( I think I was the youngest Qualified unpire in Qld I was 16) Also when Queensland separated in 1859 the centenary was held in 1959 and 100 of Qld's sports-people were invited to City Hall and presented with a medal. Yours truely was one of them . This medal holds pride of place on my "Elephant's) chest. Also included is a "nappy" pin belonging to one of my children and other such tokens.

how unusual and lovely .my mother in law use to keep all the family names on the base of an elephant because she said they never forgot. keep sakes, a lovely tadition .

Oh, Roslyn! I was wondering what to do with late DH's ties, and all his military medals & buttons. What a fabulous idea, then his daughter can have it. So much nicer than a case hung on the wall. Thank you a million times!!!!! Did you just sew all the ties together to make material, then cut out, or did you 'plan' where each strip was to go? It looks like you did the latter, that's a really lot of work! Marji

I cut out the patterns in Calico first ( helpd with support when stuffing)Then I just covered it like crazy patch. First it helps to embrodier on the ties and then place the embroidered part over the Calico. But don't do like I did and made an extra ear hehehe
