I didn't spend much to begin with either, but I got laid off in Sept. I have applied for 3 jobs but I am evidently the wrong sex and too old. So we have cut back even more. Oh well.

Remember you are BLESSED and God will meet your ever need. When man give you up and leave you for dead....BUT GOD creates a place to bring you to, to BLESS YOU. My husband been out of work for 3 months and GOD has NEVER turned His BACK on US and He won't. You be ENCOURAGED and know that GOD is TURNING IT AROUND FOR YOU ;) *2U
Amen to that! God is faithful! I will keep these needs in my prayers.
You said it beautifully. God will always provide and I truly have been blessed with a wonderful husband, family and friends.

Well, DH and I both have always tried to be careful with how we spend - mostly save for what we want and then buy. Now it's not spreading as far as we hope but that's the way it goes!

Oh my goodness... not only have a cut back, but when I logged into my 401K, I about had a heart attack.

my older son said he wasn't even going to open his balance reports on his 401K! Said he was old enough for the market to rebound...he hoped!
Teri, I figure my 401k has lost about a hundred thousand since I retired. I keep it very diversified what little I have left. My AT&T hit bottom and you know what happened to Lucent, California Power, Duke power and Delta stock.
I'm afraid to look
do not worry about your 401K, it will get back up.
It SHALL get better ;) *2U

The economy really hasn't affected me all that much. On a school bus salary there is never enough money. I don't get in my car and drive around as much. I make a list of what I need and where it is and then do all my errands one day a week, sometimes once every 2 weeks. What has affected me is embroidering lol now I have to try and come up w/ $$$ for that!

I wish my husband would do that... it irks me that he'll go to town making several trips because he "feels" like it... I told him he needs to start paying the bills, then he'll see how much gas we put out a month, and one of our cars even is a hybrid! oy vey!

As a farmwife we have always lived with a tight belt. My kids never seemed to complain. We have drawn it tighter yet, don't know how much more we can go. It is definitely a year that some of us would love to leave behind. I just keep praying and someday....

Well, 1 gallon of name brand milk costs about $5 and store brand costs about $3.5. I don't drink milk but my hubby does. Therefore, I told him we can't afford name brand milk. I also traded in my GMC Envoy and brought Toyota Corolla. Gas cuts down from $450 to about $120. On top of that, I eat at work and try not to go out eat. About cutting hair, my mom has to cut all of our hair that includes me, my son and my husband. I usually dropped my son off to school every morning. Now, I asked my neighbour across the street to drop him off together with their daughters to save gas. I also come to work to take shower at work to save water and utility. That is just a few that I can share.

Gee, I never worked any where that had shower facilities, but then I retired in 1997 the first time and have only had part time jobs since. Being on a fixed pension, I have really felt the crunch also especially after I went on Medicare. I had always had excellent medical coverage, now everything has changed and my medical coverage is not the same. When I run errands in the car, I try make fewer trips and go several places while I'm out.
We not only have shower, we also have double ovens and stove and nursery room that people can go in and take a nap and theater popcorn machine. I am afraid to go in the nursery that I just won't wake up in time to ge the work done.
Everything is going up and few things are coming down...however; this too SHALL pass ;) *2U

One of the children I was babysitting has intered preschool. so I well be cutting back. My babysitting is what pays for food and my embro. designs and sewing fabics, threads,my trips to JoAnns and Hobby Lobby. I am making christmas toys for the grandkids. and for the small gifts that I give to my Mom and my sons-in-laws. and my daughters in-laws. and my sister and her family and my best friend. We are not buying chirstmas gifts for our four older kids. but saving our money to spend on the six grandkids. Our son and daughters families are having a hard time too. It was their decison not to buy for the older kids this year. Cuase they do not have money to buy for us. My Christmas tree has always been full of gifts over the years, but not this year. It makes me sad. But on the other hand. Gifts are not what Christmas is all about. is it.
But as of now all our bills are being paid on time. but no money by the end of the week. Our eating out is going to Wendy's to get the $1.00 hamberger and side salad. and bring it home and drinking water. and that's once a week.If we have the $4.00 to even to do that.
My enternet is the one thing I may have to give up. I pray it does not come to that.
I don't know what I would do without all of you. and I just paid for other six months on cuties , just a day before I know about Dalton was leaving me. One thing about being broke, most of the country is in the same boat with me.

I have enough fabric to last five life times....I feel great saying you have to use something you have....not buy more. I must admit I did buy a few dollars of fabric at Jo Ann's and some crystals over the weekend...but I couldn't help it....I bought that little broom with crystals design that one of you cuties made look soon cute!!!! :-)
