HELP! I accidentally bumped my iron agaist some nylon material. Now I have black and red nylon melted onto my iron. How do I get it off? The iron does not have a teflon base.

don't know if it helps but in the old days, my mother cleaned her iron with a candle and tissue papre. She warmed the iron not too hot and went with the candle over the warm bottom so it melts , than with tissue paper clean the surface. don't know if it works for the nylon, but you can try.good luck

Depending on how thick the gunk is, if you let the iron cool you can sometimes just peel it off. Ask me how I know!!

lol tried peeling that is why I said not a teflon coated base *
I don't have teflon and if I let the base get down right cold the melty stuff usually will peel off. Whatever you decide to do let the iron get cold first. If it's still hot the stuff will just smear.

Hi, you could buy a new iron hahahaha!!!! sometimes a little oven cleaner works I have tried that, and sometimes toothpaste on the cold base and warm up the iron a little and when cool enough using a damp cloth. These might help, good luck.

I usually try any kind of nonabrassive cleaner, the kind I buy 4 my glass top stove works well. If all else fails My DH that is passed away & use to work for Hoover(they made irons) would take the finest steel wool u could buy for furniture refenishing & that would take it off & not scratch the iron

I sometimes have had luck warming it up, and then rubbing it with a bounce fabric sheet. Good luck!

You might have to have several goes at it. Yes Mary, it does. It is a bit of a magical things. I put it in the water when I wash the floors, as well. It does smell nice and fresh. And helps to fight the germs.
You are right MM, it is great for asthma.That is why I like to have little sachet bags hanging on the doors, when me or the kids have asthma the whole place smells like eucaliptus,***

Don't panic,Just go to walmart, they have a special cleaner for your Iron and it will clean anything, two little tubes in a package for a couple of dollars.***
