I'm wanting to try and learn how to do lace, like bookmarks and doilies. Where is the best place to get these types of designs?

Dainty Stitches has a bunch of FSL freebies. Go there first and get some free ones to practice on before you spend a lot.

More important than the designs is having the right kind of stabiliser. I recommend the "fabric type" WSS, 2 layers of medium weight, placed in opposite directions to each other. Please take a look at the tutorials in Emblibrary, you can't go wrong.
