interesting question Monica - in Maltese (I'm originally from Malta) we say: 'grazzi' meaning thank you or 'grazzi hafna' for thank you very much. here in Germany we say Danke and Vielen Dank for thank you and thank you very much respectively.

In Aussie it's usually 'ta'
not to be confused with 'ta ta' which means hooroo, or see ya later or in English it's probably 'good bye', which is not the same as when you make a great purchase 'good buy' but good bye as in....

Or if someone is really appreciative and they like you a lot you might get 'Ta Mate', which doesn't mean that you're their life partner or they have amorous designs on you it just means they really do like you and appreciate what you did and they consider you to be a 'cobber', which isn't a policeman or a cop, but a good bloke or sheila, or you're 'ridgy-didge', which isn't like a mountain ridge or anything but just means you're 'true-blue', no, not blue from the cold or anything, just that you are probably a 'fair-dinkum' nice person......

They may even say 'owya mate', which means you'll probably find a slab of 'tinnies' or 'stubbies' on your doorstep, which doesn't mean you'll find a concrete block full of tins or be inundated by a crowd of short people, just the next time you want a cold beer, you'll already have a carton full of cans or short bottles.

It may just be quicker to do the job yourself and avoid having to say thank you thereby all this explanation would then be totally unnecessary and udderly useless. LOL!
