I got a thread stand at my dealer, I think it was only about $6 or so? Very heavy metal bottom, then a metal rod with a hook in it that holds the thread as it goes to your machine. I use it for all my thread, not just the big spools, because it lets the thread unwind & relax, get fewer problems that way. I sure wouldn't spend $25 for one, though! Best of luck, Marji

Until you get your thread stand ...use one of the drink mugs with lid like the ones you get when you're in the hospital....just put cone in mug, thread throught hole and replace lid. Works every time.

You can buy the threadstands with the heavy metal base for a resonable price if you shop around. Just one suggestion tho...get a clamp and clamp it to the edge of your table. Even with the heavy metal base they will tip over and usually at the worst possible time. A tipped threadstand can ruin your project in a hurry. JMHO.
