do the monkey shines alpha for a quilt. She found out Tuesday it's a boy. Tonight she decides she likes puppies after all. Two months ago she didn't want dogs. About two minutes later its a toy theme. Trucks and cars and such (thats not toy theme to me). Oh and she does not like yellow. How am I suppose to do something if she changes every time I turn around!!! I have 3 other baby quilts to do by February and can't keep starting and stopping all the time.

My daughter is having a baby soon, she is just happy to be a mum for the second time. Whatever you make i'm sure it will be done with nana love. Give her the baby quilt after the birth, she will be fine and love it.

But will she be upset if I don't do it prior. She lives here with us and I am
dealing with her emotional roller coaster
bouts of crying. which I don't deal with too well. lock myself away from it.

My husband and myself have but two families together as one,we always seem to have had them come home at different times. I have found that if you are too nice, and let them have their own way,the household harmony is no longer there. They need to know the rules no mater what age they are. Tell her you love her, that you are happy to have your son and herself live with you, but she must treat you as she would want to be treated. To speek to you as she herself would like to be spoken to. I found sitting together at meal times helps to keep everybody friendly. I hope this helps. Merry christmass
we are gently trying to have them move on.
I think it is more of us worrying about the baby to be. My son is adhd and she is not very people smart so I guess we do worry there. But I remeber I was 20 with no clue either.

camy, as the other's have said - do what you want - a quilt is a quilt - is a quilt - a theme for the room - can have something in it - that isn't like the theme - so don't worry - you are doing this for your first grandchild - do it with love and it will show - don't get frustrated - you have lots of work - before February to finish. Get going! Hehehe!

Actually I wanted it for christmas to go with the crib we got her. Now I have to wait for the shower. Thanks

Go with the "monkey shines" alphabet idea. It sounds great, and it doesn't matter if it fits into the "theme" or not. After all, "most battle plans do not survive contact with the enemy" and by the time the baby is here for a few weeks, she will be realizing that. It will be cute, and will be appreciated (even if she never manages to come out and say so!)

Hmm, well I think you should do whatever you feel like doing for her, afterall it is your grandchild. I am sure whatever you decide will be loved. Unfortunatley, us women do like to change our mind often......lol

I so wanted to do a jungle theme. I guess I could always do one in my house and then wait for her when she finalizes the theme.

First of all it is your present for your grandchild and not fo the mother. Second you have some splendid ideas, just start making the quilt that YOU want for your GRANDCHILD. Good luck and don't become frustrated.

Well, my DH has claimed him...so I doubt I will have him to often. You would have to understand my husband. He wanted a family of 12. He got 2 from me, so this is his bubble waiting to burst. I have never seem a man be so thrilled, not even dad's to be. I could always do one that my hubby would enjoy. CARS

Do whatever you want for the quilt. The monkey shines sounds like a good idea. Besides by the time you are finished with the quilt and the baby arrives the new mother will be so happy to have it over with that she will love anything and any design! She will be happy with it!!

I hope that is true. This was an accident pregnancy. She is attending culinary school and is sliding behind because of all the appointments she has.
I just hope she doesn't start resenting the baby.

Ah, camylow, we all see it the same way. YOU are creating a quilt out of love, and it's your vision you need to follow. There are all those other "retail" people who will buy her flavor of the day. My two GS got frog quilts. Bright primary colors.DIL didn't want blue. You can do a search in the projects for Landon's Quilt. I think those monkeys will be gorgeous. Go with your heart.

Thank you, seems everyone says to do it my way, but she goes through bawling stages everytime we talk. I've been hybernating in my room so as not to have to deal with it. Sad, but true. It's my house, but I just can't stand whinning
every time she asks me for something, but doesn't like my advice.

make the one you want to since you'll have to look at the longest while making it. I hope she doesn't turn out like my girlfriends daughter in law, no matter what she does it's wrong. The mother is american indian the father pretends to have american indian blood so the grandmother uses my machine, thread, stablizer etch and puts this cute fairy with the baby's indian name on a shirt and poof the mommy never manages to put it on the child! I made her a baby quilt that has never been used as well so if she's buggin you do what you want and relax.

One thing about it is, it will be used.
My DH plans on having GS here 24/7. His foot has been tapping the floor every since he found out.

Everyone else is pulling the same voting lever as I am. It is a gift from your heart to your grandson. Make it with love for him, she is just FULL of hormonal fluxes and maybe her indecisiveness will pass, but if doesn't, it was for baby anyway.;)

I don't think that hormonal has anything to do with it. She was that way prior to
this. Very sweet girl but not a decision
maker at all.

I would advise you not to ask what she wants ever again. When giving a gift, you give what you want to give.
she lives in our house, can't really get away from not dealing with her too much on the matter

Well, I have a new twist...don't do any quilt and when she asks...tell her you were waiting for her to make up her mind and then make it...OR go with the majority: make what YOU want! The quilt should be FUN to make, not frustrating. (please don't be offended by my first response - of course I know that you want to make one for your blessed grandson, it's just that I feel your pain.)..*4u

I was really hoping to be able to get the antique crib (we bought) sanded down, painted cream colored, and blanket done for her by christmas. My son is going to buy the mattress for it. Since money is so tight, this was suppose to be a gift. I purchased her shower gifts when she first found out.
Oh very nice, I just love antiques and I bet this baby room is going to be beautiful and the quilt that you finally decide on is going to compliment just as well...sounds like you have a lot going on...hugs and flowers for you..
too much my son, nephew and a best friend all are due on the end of april....ughhh
christmas, babies and birthdays roll to fast and there isn't any time.

I have a quilt gift coming up soon and this one is very "pickie". But she does like pastels. So I am going to do a quilt and then put the babies name on it. Hey that way she can't give it away to just anyone. hehe So do the quilt the way you like that way you will enjoy making it and enjoy your grandchild.

We won't go there with the names dept. soooo undecided I think she is worst in that dept.

Do What You want to do:) Baby Boy will love it..It will be from GRANDMA:) I went thru the same thing with my son's signifficant OTHER...she didn't want any pink for her lil girl...Now that's all GD wears..she's 2 and picks her own clothes out in the morning...don't matter to her as long as it has pink in it!

well at least we both love the color purple, so that will help...

Don't worry about it. Make what you think will be nice. She should appreciate it because you made it. I might even be nice to have something other than what goes with "the theme" upon occasion. I personally think the monkey shine fonts will be cute. I have had that in mind to do someday if I get them all.

it is rather slow getting them all. but well worth the wait...so adorable. besides I think little boys are monkeys in disguise..heheheh

Quilts are always useful specially when they come from grandma, just do a design that you love, that could be use for a boy and don't worry about anymore.***

I'm with the others. Use the monkeys. If you want you can always make another quilt after the baby is born and use the room colors and/or theme. I'm sure she will be thrilled with anything you make.

PLEASE don't misunderstand me. It really isn't that she is ungrateful, I think she is frightened and worried and doesn't have a clue what she is in for. But GRANDPA is going to be sure he has him most of the time and I will probably do a nursery in our room also, sooo waaalllaaa

I hope for your sake that your sons girlfriend grows up sooooon. At this stage I would do a quilt that u want to do & later do one for a theme bedroom. My thinking is that the alphabet would suit his first bed. or u could do alphabet on one side & cars on the other so when grandad is whith him the cars will be on top, & car noises he will soon learn.
I strongly believe that bright colours make a hiperactive child, Pastal colours make a placid child. Cheak this out for yourself, sit inside a tent like room with all bright colours and keep looking at them all then repeat with pastal colours. Music is the same soft & calming is better

My Answer would be to do a mixed design quilt with animals n toys and redwork little boys, you could make it hang longer down the sides of the bed and do a border of different animals, but make the main centre theme, toys n cars, etc.
I've never made a quilt but I so want to make one for each of my grandchildren, but I am having trouble deciding what to put on them as there are so many fantastic designs.
So i have decided to do what i just suggested to you. WHEN i get over my surgery that is. hugs n roses, M

You can't please everyone, all the time. Or so they say. I would make something form your heart - it is YOUR gift to the baby, not hers. So long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters in my books.
