We have a diabetic couple with us for awhile...He is managable. she gets up and literally sneaks into the sweets..I am having a very hard time trying to keep it from her. I had to hide any and all sweets from my kitchen. She has
cried and had fits, cussed me out for finding her stash and removing them from her. She has congested heart problems, diabetic, nuperology (something like that)..WHAT IS IT that I am suppose to feed her??? The no no's and ok's for diabetics...She is a pastely gray color and can barely get around by herself. I really would appreciate someones help in this area...I love sweets and salt myself, so this is very difficult for me.
i'm a diabetic myself and know how hard it is to eat good food,i don't have any problem with my food because i don't eat sweets and cookies,
healty food for diabetic is alot of veg and fruit, broun bread that keep the bloodsugars longer good then white bread, not much butter, nothing with dextrose, glucose because this gets the bloodsugars verry fast verry high,
if this lady injects herself then she can inject a little bit more insuline when she wants to eat something sweat,
but if she wants to eat something sweet she can eat better candy our cookies for diabetics that have no sugar but maltitol sugar our aspartan sugar for diabetics these sugars are sugars that not get the bloodsugars verry high,
chocolate is also not good for a diabetic because of the lot of fat in the chocolate and also the sugar,
try to give this lady sweet things for diabetic with maltitol sugars,so she can enjoy eating something sweet because some people who are diabetic cant stop eating sweet things and when the bloodsugars are verry high your body gives a signal to eat our drink more sweet things whats not good ,
also the drinks for a diabetic have to be light drinks with no sugar but with maltitol,
i hope that i could help you a little bit,
good luck with it,gr connie
Use cereals like whole bran foods, oats, low fat milk etc.(Yoqhurt)
I often make myself a slice of low GI whole wheat bread with about 250g of baked beans on it, for lunch.
Also use fish (sardines)or fresh fish, low fat cuts of meat, especially chicken, without skin. Make a stirfry with veg, including some carrot, baby marrow, etc. and cook up some pasta, and add to stir fry ( half a cup per serving- cooked.)
Let her drink water (at least 5-6 glasses a day). I find I am always thirsty, but not too much milk.
Sugar free cooldrinks; no sugar in coffee or tea;
The keyword is healthy food.
You say she has a grey colour, please see if you could have her sugar tested (if she has not got a monitor of her own), but try to stay away from all junk food and sweets.Alcohol.
You know sometimes I feel an incredible urge for sweet things, but it is not good to eat the wrong stuff then.
See whether you cannot get a book or magazine on
low GI foods.
The keywords is HEALTHY EATING. not too difficult.
Hope this helps a little, and good luck.
You know I know it is difficult but boredom can also cause a food craving, mabe you should find something interesting for her to participate in. Go for short walks, etc.
