You'll like this raelene that's what I back up all my designs on. I unplug it after I back up so I don't have to worry about it crashing. *4U

Oh Raels, I know you are not happy to do the work - but once it is done - you will enjoy your files - so much more - get to work and then share with us - the beauty of it later. Hehehe!

Well after you finish with yours I will volunteer mine to be "re-Organized"...take your time, it won't seem so bad when you get done:)

It's a time consuming task. Mine need a good sort out too... it's on my 'get around to' list!

A great idea...I have been thinking of doing the same. I have way too many designs on my computer. Let us know how it goes.

I don't know what it is, but if it stores your designs, I guess it is worth it. I have been trying to burn mine to Cd's , I have so many zip files. I was trying to unzip before I burn then. My computer is so slow because it is overloaded. Does a 500gb external hard drive work with a lap top????

Yes it just plugs into a USB port the same as a memory stick

I have several external hard drives. Of course you have to be careful and not get a virus on it or you will lose it all. Been there an done that one.
I thought I saw a program (free) that will allow you to orginize your files so you can see what they are.
I have started re-doing mine again too. but I also am backing them up on disk.
When I down load a file, I try to put it in the spproiate folder then, so I don't forget what it is.

Oooh!!! this is hard, but worthwhile work. a Year ago I sat down for about 8 days, and loaded all my files under different headings, such as Angels, America, Animals: Bears, dogs, cats etc. It took so long, but now I know exactly where to go. Just do not give up. I also opened a extra folder, (you can call it anything you like), and I first load the new files, (not too many-mabe 10 at a time) into this. Then I can first decide whitch file to put it in. Sometimes a person gets interrupted when you are filing, and this helps.I also found that naming my new folders myself is much nicer. I still find that I need to open folders that I never thought of. Good luck to you

Raelene, I did the same and once you have done it it deserves your time because you can find anything so easely. I also make CD's as a xtra backup. Don't give up it's worth it.

I also back my designs up onto an external hard drive. I like to keep all my designs in a folder just for a particular designer so I know where they all come from. I do have embroidery software that has it's own library that opens all these folders, so I can see all the designs as stitchouts. I don't calalogue them into themes,as I prefer the 'supplier folder' method. Best of luck whichever way is right for you. - Just give yourself small goals - not so daunting that way. AND back up often, into an overall file called, say, 'EmbroideryDesignsddmmyy'

Hi Raels, I did this about a year ago. I can find all my designs but don't ask me where they are from eg. website, disc or designer.
I was thinking of an easy way to do this myself. Good luck

Good Luck to you. It took me several days, hours, eye strain to get this done. It is a lot easier to find things.

I feel for you! I am doing that for mom right now! I have the faster computer with a 500g hd on my pc so stole all her designs to organize them. It took me a whole day to just the alphas! My suggestion is have snacks at hand and lots of coffee. :-)
