Twas the month after Christmas,

and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled,
the chocolate I'd taste
At the holiday parties
had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),

I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...
I said to myself, as I only can,
"You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet.

I think this might help..I am also doing the Nutrisystem plan. Works pretty good and you get to actually eat.
by jrob 20 Jan 2009

I've overindulged too - I vow not to every year but come every January the scales shout the same old "Get off". I'm off down the gym next week too Jo

Cute. I think it is hopeless. I don't even drop those pounds by not eating and that's not fun!

What works? Limit sugar, reduce portions and exercise. I used to be a die hard exerciser, but have gained weight I'd like to get off soon! So I walk 2-3 miles at lunchtime with a friend at work... oy vey!

I've been going to Jazzercise for over 26 years. I love it because I can feel like a dancer but it doesn't matter if I don't look like one. I also get lost in the music and make friends there. When a couple of pounds creep on I go 4 or 5 times a week instead of 3. Of course I got lucky/unlucky last fall. I took a new medication to get rid of migraines and it made me lose 15 pounds. I also got a little psycho so I don't recommend it. I'm not on that medication anymore so my goal now is to keep the weight off. I cut my portions in half. It's amazing how much food you really don't need. Try
Jazzercise.com and 1-800-Fit-isit in the USA to find a class near you. They are world wide. You can always modify Jazzercise moves for injuries and low impact!

Sorry to hear that. Maybe look for an aerobics class that would be similar.
