I always hoop sweatshirts...I did break a hoop also...but not on a sweatshirt..was doing a heavy denim coat:( I used the super glue too but it didn't hold...I haven't replaced it YET...those )#$_)% things are expensive! I only used a sticky paper 1 time..and haven't tried the spray stuff...sorry:(

I use 505 and I don't hoop the fabric. Put your stabilizer in the hoop, spray with 505, then the item you are working with, spray again, then the wash away on top. Works great just make sure that you have the item you are working with centered.

I use 505 too, haven't hooped in a while. It works great but beware it's hard to get off the hoop!

I use nothing but 505. I was taught that it would keep the needle from clogging. I do not hoop towels, knits, etc. Works great as has already been stated, keep the design centered on the center of the hoop.

Joanns have 505 ... but remember to use to sparingly. It does work great!

Mary try to glue your hoop back together with JB WELD. It might work. Kathy

I also like the 505 temporay adhesive. It is odorless, colorless, stainless, spotless, and does not gum the needles!!!

mary, I don't hoop ANYTHING...I also use 505 and use my coupon from my Joann's fabrics mailer - usually 40% off and sometimes I even use washable glue stick and have had no problems and of course I always do my basting stitch around the embroidery area..hope all works out

I cant help you at all - I've never found 505 in my country, and the one can of spray glue I did get was hopeless! I use gluesticks for my inhoop applique type projects. As for the nothooping/hooping I still haven't figured that one out yet either!

I use sticky stabilizer then float the cut-away under the hoop.

Mary I like the 505, expensive but I don't use it a lot. I usually pin, then run a basting thread around the hoop to baste the object & go fr9m there *

Mary I use 505....great stuff and doesn't load up on your needle. When embroidering heavy sweats I usually just pin them to hooped stablizer...works great for me.

Hey MM ....don't really hoop too much use sticky stablizer for most of my work, except towels those I just place on the top of the hoop with the stabilizer hooped and use straight pins to hold the towel in place while I do the design...Hugs G xxx

i use smart craft applique'& embroidery positioning spray it is colourless, wont stain, odourless, acid free and will not damage machine needle it was $13.95 for a 350g can.

MM, I use 505, or use the pin-and-baste method - especially on heavier articles. Sorry to hear about your hoop, those things are expensive, I hope gluing will help!

I hear many of you happy about 505... I used it and I do not like it as it stays on the fabric even after washing. It also made some marks on polar that I am not able to remove. ùI always hoop evrything as I do not wash my items before making a gift for example. Sorry... PAt

I NEVER EVER USE SPRAY GLUE SO WHAT DO I DO
i hoop with wsf and position the design on that and baste it in place otherwise i really cheat and then cut a piece of clear vynle and hoop it, next i sew a baste stitch inside the hoop and then cut away a window from the vynle this leaves a nice hole in the middle of it now i lay down double sided sticky tape on the vynle that remains still hooped in place,
remove the top layer paper from the double sided sticky and then we can begin to play a smaller piece of WSF is now simply laid down onthe DSST and it is secured lay the fabric to be embroidered on top of it and bast that the to film sew out as normal
no more pulled fabric out of shape just perfectly sewn items
this idea is great if you are doing lots of designs in the one size of hoop this is the way i placed all the designs onto the lap quilt.
If doing applique work then use a childs glue stick to hold the fabric that is being appliqued. It will wash out with ease qnd no discoloring and no spray all over the working area or in the air we breath.

I use 505 Spray and Fix. I don't spray it ON my hoop. I spray the stabilizer (over the liner of the trash can) and then take my hands and smooth the stabilizer on the design area, then hoop. I always hoop sweatshirts along with stabilizer (that keeps them from stretching). Just let the screw WAY out and finger tighten. I've done hundreds and never had a problem.;)
This is just like any other type project. Everyone has the way they were taught or figured out and are comfortable doing it that way. So whatever works for you, works!

For heavy stuff like a sweatshirt, I use the Wet and Stick cutaway stabilizer. I only use 505 when I absolutely have to. It works great and doesn't gum up the needle, but do NOT get it near your hoop. Spray out in the garage, too, because it does stink. I only spray things that will be permanently stuck together anyway, so I can't speak to the problem of it not washing out. I like the Wet & Stick better than spray, but sometimes you need layers, so spray is the only choice. Good luck, Mary!! Good to see you, by the way. Love, Marji

If you spray your hoop with 505 it gets "tacky" real quick. I bought some "OOPS! Multi Purpose Remover and you want to spray this stuff outside. After you spray your hoop let it set for a while then wash it with HOT water and all of the 505 comes off.

I use 505 spray. I have a small box that I put my fabric in and then spray so I don't have any problems with my hoops getting gummed up. When I embroider on really thick sweatshirts I hoop my stabilizer and pin the sweatshirt on top. I've never had any problems doing it this way. Looks like you have lots of answers and remedies now all you need is a new hoop.
