I must give your hubby props for at least trying! Mine wouldnt have a clue as to what I was meaning even if he did see a list! Maybe you can use that WSS for something other than the intended purpose.

Mary, I use it all the time and I love it. I have used both and its according to what your gonna do, but I absolutely love it. Your can also take the ends and pieces, but them in water and make a stiffening liquid out of it (like starch). You can't keep it long, tho, cause it will sour. It, to me, is very easy to work with. Sometimes if your doing something with tiny cutouts in it, it will cut the wss out, you can just slide a piece of extra under the design and keep on sewing. You can also take the extra scraps, sew them together with a loose seam and use them for more.

LOL! Mary isn't that what we refer to here as 'Avalon' the one that u use on TOP of Towels etc - well we do in any case - it just washes away but avoids the 'loops' from the towels from getting all messed up! REALLY works well! I use a light / thin 'stitch & tear' on the bottom!

I don't use it for FSL - ONLY when I want to use it for fabric that is like TOWELS etc - also Diapers!

I gave my Film type WSS to Nonna, she likes it, I hated it. I only ever buy the fabric type but no way I would let "Mr DURR" buy my supplies, Heavens, I couldn't imagine what I would end up with, probably something to clear blocked toilets!!!!

I use the thin (20 micron) quality for towels, like many of the others suggested. And I have a thick (80 micron) variety (called Badgemaster for some inexplicable reason) to do FSL. Works fine for me. I have used the woven type as well, but could not get that in large quantities, just 1 meter pieces.

Oooooh, just tell him you love him for trying, and hide your lists. But you know there are so little men that will do this for a person, you are very lucky. I must admit my hubby (John) will also always try to help. I sent him to go and buy me some ordinary cotton for a dress, and he brought me 3 spools of Madeira embroidery cotton, imagine the difference in cost. Madeira is R40.00 a spool and ordinary Seralon is R12.00 a spool, quite a difference, luckily I can use the Madeira. But he tried. Lots of huggs for them. Marietta. ***

I have some of that clear Plastic stuff,and that is what I tried my frst FSL on...What a mess! It kept ripping and tearing away and everything kept bunching up. I deffinately prefer the Vilene. I wonder if there is a trick that I need to know to use th clear stuff??

lol at least he tried use it over the top of materials or materials that have high pile like polar fleece i hoop it up with the material works well :)

I use the clear all the time. I make a lot of terry bibs. Also for kitchen towels, baby blankets. It keeps the nap down and then I can just tear it off. I didn't realize there was anything else until I did FSL. I do like the woven for it. And I use it for sweatshirts. Jackie

Hey MM that old saying "never look a gift horse in the mouth...." LOL he was being helpfull... I use the clear all the time with no problems just not too dense a design and sometimes 2 layers, but always good for me...also use it on top of my towels to keep the design from sinking in...give it a try kiddo you may like it...Hugs G x0x0x0x

I use clear wss, the thin wss for towels and so on and a thicker kind(real thicker) for lace. Perhaps if you try it will not be so bad afterall.But I agree you mostly prefer the one you're familiar with.but it was sweet of him :)

I only have clear. I didn't know there was another type but then I haven't tried FSL either.

Oh my Mary, at least he tried - until you get it and know what it is that he bought - you will never know if it can be used - if he bought you 250 yards of it - you can return it or find a way to use it up - if it is the kind it sounds like - that is a lot of WSS for just topping your projects. Even if you had to use several (4-5) layers of it to do your FSL - it depends on the price - if it is worth it to attempt. Let us know - what you end up doing - the best bet is to go ahead and order the kind that you really want and plan on retuning the one he bought you or sell it to the local store or something. Good luck!

How thoughtful of him to try. You can use it for topping. If you try it for FSL use several layers. I have a couple of rolls of clear I bought 2 years ago still un-opened. I can't even count the number of yards of mesh I've used. I sold out 2 Walmarts, plus several rolls from my dealer. If you try the clear for FSL let us know how it works out.

I have some clear from sulky, didnt think I would like it. But it works great I used 2 layers

I use the clear heavy weigt and love it! so you may be surprised.
