I don't think you need any special thread for Cross Stiching, I use my regular embroidery threads with great results. Good luck and ****4U

I use my regular embroidery thread that I use for other machine embroidery designs & I really love cross stitch designs. That's the first embroidery I learned as a child. cross stitch designs on bleached flour sack dish towels that my grandmother had ironed on the design. *4u Monica

Not necessarily, but it looks great in the matt threads you can buy, like the matt polyester or the cotton embroidery threads - I've still got some leftover reels from the sixties and they are great for cross stitch.

I agree with Martine, a flat thread (matte) will give it a hand made look. But you can use any thread you like.
