I have tried another design for a doily, and decided that I wanted it to look very similar to one that my grandmother made over 65 years ago. This is not the design, but does have the appearance of her work. The design is from Dainty Stitches, doily design #18. It measures 9" across, has 8 panels consisting of a total of 88,811 stitches. I combined the panels so that I could stitch out in one hooping, done in my mega hoop. I loved doing this one, for while it was stitching, I was able to read, and finished my book while this stitched out. I had purchased some of the variaged thread from the BFC stash, just to see how it would stitch out. The thread is very nice, but the varigated spools are only 1000 meters, much smaller than I normally use.

Beth, my grandmother was the crochet person in my family and she would love this - I can't remember any in variegated thread, however I am sure she did them, too. Thank you for a lovely presentation and so much info. Great job.

What a lovely Project. Good way to catch up on your reading too. I do Ironing or I sew on the other machine. You can always find something useful to do instead of watching the needle go up and down ?

For those of you asking about this design - well it came from Dainty Stitches, and is DS0853, doily #18. There is only one design panel, that you stitch 8 times. I combined this into my large hoop and did all in one hooping. Please remember to slow your machine down when you do this, or you may have little areas not connected. I am adding the link so that you can look at the site.
