In the last weeks befor christmass when we were all pushing ourselves to get our xmass gifts done,i had a lady ask for a towel to be done for free, she handed me a couple of extra towels with instructions of the designs. I posted in to the cute familyhow i felt used. Most of your replys told me to say no next time or ask for money to cover costs. Today the same lady asked me to do more towels. I asked her if the towels had washed well, she said that they had and their were no problems with them. Then went on to ask for more freebies to be done ASAP and do you think that you could do the names a lot larger as she thought it would look much better.. Well my friends i said No.... with a smile and offered her a cupa instead.

Good for you - people sometimes 'expect' things for free not realizing that there really is an expense involved. I have someone just like that but at least every now and then she'll spring for a spool of thread - and get this, she now wants to use my machine herself and then tells me "You can go do something else!" Sure just turn over my $5000 machine to somebody for a spool of thread, don't think so, so now she's a little snippy with me when we run into each other, oh well, tsk tsk tsk. Stand your ground, you are in the right.

Mine is a old one but I gave 3500.00 for it when I bought it and I would not let any one else use it I know if something hapends to it I can not get another one . when I was on vacation my friend tolld me I could use hers I said I don't think so.
I have a friend here and she has 4 machines when mine broke she said come over and use mine I thanked her and told her she was very kind but I would wait for mine.

My congrats to you. I still have a had time saying no. I'm getting better at it but it only took losing half my stomach to ulcers to get here. Please take from one who knows don't worry yourself about people who are users if you want to do something for someone fine but people like yoou are talking about will keep coming back until you have nothing to give. God bless

Didn't it make you feel good to achieve that. I know it did for me I was always a succor for jobs for free. I now have to control myself when I make something for myself not to give it away because some one likes it.

Congratulations Toet. The comments from other Cuties have made me laugh at the different situations people have been put in by people expecting work for free. The one about 'borrowing a machine' is totally priceless. Would she lend her car?

Heather, you did the right thing - I know for me - I have had to do just that and when it was all said and done - I still did the work - but it was paid for and both of us got what we wanted and still remain friends - once they understand that you mean what you say - they do come around to seeing it - your way. It is like opening a can of worms - Hehehe! Good for you, dear one. Shirlene

If someone is asking for a favour they should realize you have a right to say no and they should accept that with a smile. They in turn do not have a right to be angry or upset if you do say no. If someone is only friends with you to demand things of you it is not much of a friendship.

Just Marvelous toet. there comes a time when everyone has to b able to look someone n the eye & say that word. I too have learned people will take advantage of u. they seem to think " the machine does all the work" Little do they know all that's involved. Proud of u, now stick with it. * Congratulations on developing a backbone!!
