In Holland we say when you become 50: you'll see Abraham for a man)or Sarah( for a woman).I embroidered Abraham on a scarf with the text:Congratulations.I thought it would be funny as a gift for a 50th birthday.

Great. You "dutch " peple have some very cute traditions. I had a friend who was Dutch and we had such fun teaching her "Aussie"Slang ,while she gave us some great traditions from her homeland. I JUST LOVE IT well done.

In the part of the country I now live they place a life size Abraham or Sarah in your front garden. When my husband got his we found a straw figure on a bicycle wearing a waterpolo cap on the front porch. With some cute saying. Guess what my husband hobbies are. Although they forgot the postage stamps. Originating from the Hague that custom was a new one to me. There you may get a 2 ft sort of gingerbread cake in the shape of a bearded man.
