I use DRAWings and also Embird wich is a much afordable one and you can buy the different features as you need or are able to afford. Digitizing softwares are a matter of preference just as anything else so I recommend that you research the ones that are available, compare features and decide which one really suites your needs.

There are many types out there. Quite a few beginners try Embird because it's not to expensive and many sites offer free tutorials. Check out some trial versions, and see what ones have good support. I have DigitizerPro, but bought it before I knew about the others available. Many digitizers have more than one. Good luck and welcome to the Cute family.

Welcome to the Cute Family, Janey!! Research your digitizing programs very well before purchasing one, some have free trials. I have Janome's Digitizer Pro, and Janome machines, like Debleerl. In your question you say "convert pictures to embroider": if you are referring to auto-digitizing, where someone says "all you have to do is click and it will become embroidery", don't believe it. Some software will do that, mine does, but you will NOT like the results. You still have to tweak it a lot for it to become a design you'd be happy with. Remember, a computer and a program are just 'stupid' machines. They can't recognize that something is an eye or a nose or an ear, it's just a hole to be filled with stitches. When you use an auto-digitize function, one eye may be satin stitch, the other a weave fill, and the nose turning-angle satin stitch, yuck. Digitizing is an art, and well worth learning, because it is so much fun to do even just for yourself. Get a lot of input before you decide to spend your money on a program, and you are more likely to get something you need and can use. Best of luck to you!!! Marji

Welcome to the site! I bought Embird in december and I've had Husqvarna software since 1998 (3D Pro at the moment). Both have their pro's and con's; both give excelent results once you know how, but Embird is much cheaper by far and has a month's free trial.

Thanks for the welcome, and I actually downloaded embird. The drawbacks with trial versions are that I am unable to save what I work on...which was a huge disappointment. I think I will purchase embird, but is there a particular site I should go to for better pricing or are they the same across the board? A little off topic, but I remember seeing the egg critters for free download, but I can't find them anymore. Is there a search feature for the designs on this site? Thanks for the answers, I am sure I will be coming back to learn more...i just got a brother embroidery machine (700 II) and i got to stitch out one design i found from this forum (the train..that looks like thomas) and my son loves it!
