What if you dont want the whole name to have a picture attached to the letter and you are after plain letters or lower case ones that have the same font style. What does everyone else do ???? hope this makes sense lol as i want to embroider a name onto a blanket but only want the first letter of the name to be fancy. I ended up attaching the small butterfly from designs by cuties and doing it as free standing lace and attached it afterwards as i couldn't fing a matching font.

thanx i just couldn't find anything and to be honest i wasn't really sure. I really have to do some test ones but hey who has time for that hehehe.

I only use it as a background letter more like stacking them and I find another font plain that matches

You are completely right, an elaborate initial is beautiful but a whole name written in capitals is illegible.
So I use, similar to my embroidery collection, a "FontManager" program, where fonts are sorted in styles (script, bold, italic, antiqua, fraktur etc)and you can type in a text which is shown in the choosed font. And you can print out a catalog for preview.
To combine the Initial and the rest of text I use the "Import" function of the embroidery programm.
And I can tell you: thinking of the best matching font is one reason why I never get a project ready.

Oh, I had to laugh! And other reasons for not getting it done is picking the right colors, the right stabilizer, which needle should I use, which cat should sit on my lap....I have a million of 'em!!! Hee hee hee hee Marji

i did once all the letters in a fancy font for my son ...but i think it better to do one fancy letter and the name right under ...

I have PE Design 7 and that has fonts in it that I can make, but before that I used the single designs and put them together one by one lining them up together and I used the alphabets that had upper and lowercases or a lowercase that would blend with the main letter and I used the cute alphabets. one very useful font set is the goldfont and there is a few others like the daisyfont it has both. Failing that I just use the two initials in the fancy. That takes care of everything. lol.
Now days I import the design and put them together in the program so they will sew out in one hooping.

I can join them up or add letters or designs through editing on my machine but i really need to test it first i suppose maybe its a hint for all those digitizers to produce a lower case font to match lol.

I digitise any lower case letters I need, in a font as close to the one used for the Capital letter.

I like the elaborate initial with the whole name under it in a similar font. You'd really be surprised how many fonts look quite a bit alike, or go well together despite not being alike. I also put them together in Digitizer to do in one hooping. Good luck, Marji

Marj i really didnt have time to test alot of fonts as they needed it in a hurry and i wanted to do a good job and besides i have that many unfinished projects now lol
