hi im new to this i have a old singer xl1000 i would like to buy new machine but finding it difficult to pick one i tend to be going towards a janome what would you think is the best

I have a small Brother PE150...I like it because it ONLY embroiders..I can still work on something on my Pfaff sewing machine while the PE stitches!! Hope You find what you are looking for!!

I have a Janome 350E which jusst embroiders. Also, I have the Janome 9000 which sews and embroiders. I love both of them and never had any problem with these machines. My personal choiced is Janome especially if you have a dealer closse by so it can be serviced annually.

Welcome to the Cute family! I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I have a Janome 100001 and I love it. I couldn't justify the additional cost of the 11000 although it has some nice extra features. My dealer sells Janome and Bernina. One time I asked her which she uses for her personal sewing and she said Janome. Also, there are several ladies in the club classes that traded their Bernina for a Janome because the Janome is more user friendly. Whatever you decide, be sure you get a good dealer. Your dealer's support is very important.

I have a Janome 9700 and love it. Does both sewing and embroidery, but if you're just wanting an embroidery machine Janome makes a 350E that would take care of your needs and they only run $1599. or less if you talk real sweet or just let them know they can do better on their price. Personally I would go with the Janome it's user friendly and has wonderful stitch quality.

I have the Janome 11000 and would not change it for anything else. We must each like the particular machine we have so most replies will be favourable. May I suggest that you consider what features you want most from a machine and those that are of no interest, together with what you are able to afford, then start your research. Remember that all makes will have their 'rouge' machines so someone will have have a gripe about a particular make and model. When I purchased mine I also asked our fellow cuties but I think I had already made my mind up. I had an Elna before and support my machine was withdrawn from the UK and as I has few issues decided to go for a new one. At the time Janome was offerering £1000 trade in so that made my decision a little easier. Good luck with this difficult task.

I also have a Singer XL 1000. I got a Baby Lock Esante next and I love it! Never a single problem! Then I decided I wanted another one so I got the Baby Lock Ellageo and I truely adore it! I never had a problem with it either! It has the larger hoop also. Baby Lock now has out a new one and if I could rob a bank I would have it in a heart beat! The Ellisimo sings and dances and fixes dinner at the same time. heehee I am no longer able to work and live off of disability so I have no idea I will ever have it but I can wish! Go to Baby Lock's web site and you can look at a short video. The Baby Lock's are easy to learn how to use and I have mine sitting side by side. I use both of them at the same time. The only time I use the Singer is when I need a design from their disc. The Baby Lock is PES format and the Essante can take a floppy disc straight from the computer. I can download a design from the computer and get up and cross the room and put it in the sewing maching and start sewing. It also takes memory cards that you can purchase. I am not sure if the New Baby Lock takes a floppy disc or not but if you need to know, I will find out for you. The lady at Office Depot ask me why I was still buying floppy disc. I told her it was too easy to download a design off the internet and go straight to the sewing machine and sew a design. Of course I back them up on a CD but I like the floppy disc thingy!!!! Linda I have the babylock Ellegante 2 It's not the elissimo but it's a step up from your essante. My dealer said he would wait a yr before going to the Elissimo & give them a chance to get rid of all the bugs but I'll probably stay with the ellegante, they r so user friendly for dumb old women like me. I am in Fayetteville right now. My son forced me to move up here a couple of yrs. ago to be closer to him so he could her look after me. That was a joke! He met Gail and got married and I never see him plus he moved further away from me. I am causing some waves right now trying to get back to Swainsboro where all my family and friends are. He is not happy with me but I could care in the least! I am tired of being broke all the time and staying by myself. I just can not afford to live in the Atlanta on disability. I have too many Dr. bills with these legs of mine. If I did not have my 2 little girls (Pekingese) Bebe,13 and Patty,4 I would go crazy! They are little stinkers,especially the baby! The older one has cancer but it has not spread from the tumor as of last account with the Vet. Since my son got married he tries to boss me around and treat me like I do not have enough sense to come in out of the rain. He is just taking advantage of me and I am tired of it! He did not leave home until he was 37 but he got outstandingly smart after he left home and I got too stupid to walk and talk at the same time. He got married for the 1st time at 41 and Gail came with 2 grown daughters and 3 grand children. I just love Gail but I have no idea what happened to my son! I hurt all the time and I just can't not deal with any extra mess! I filled out papers today trying to get an appartment. He came in while I was doing it. He has been a total butte since then. He will get over it. I will have to admit that the Drs. are much better up here but I just can not deal with my x husband made over. He has never had anything to do with his dad & I had complete custody of him since he was 11. When he moved up here at 37 his dad started showing up now and then. He has been around alot for the last 2 years. Somebody in the family said he must be trying to get in heaven but I just think he is trying to make my life miserable. I try to play nice btu it is hard to do. We were married for 16 years and been divorced for 29. I have NEVER thought about getting married again! Sorry, I know that you did not ask all that but I got on my soapbox! It has benn a bad week already. 2 dr. appts in 3 days. ENOUGH!

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that both of the Baby Locks will sew regular also. All you have to do is change the haeds on them. Very easy! Linda in Ga I can spell I just can't type!!! It should have read heads on them.

I have a brother 1500D and love it. I had a friend that had a Janome and had nothing but trouble. I think alot of that had to do with her dealer not knowing a thing about them either. look at your dealer when you go to buy.Service, knowledge, do they offer classes? And of course how far will you have to drive to get there for emergencies.... and they do come up.

Further to my answer below, a major factor in my choosing the Jamone MC11000 was there is no embroidery unit to find a home for. I used to keep the embroidery unit of my Elna upstairs and my machine is downstairs, some times it was just too much trouble to keep putting it together and taking it apart to store or to change to regular sewing. Now I just flick a lever and the embroidery arm swings back into the machine and I can do regular sewing or close up my sewing cabinet. Just a little more for you to consider! Good luck.

Hello & welcome to the Wonderful world of cute embroidery, 1st let me say this, your #1 priority should b is there someone very near for maintenance on your machine if u run into any problems. A repairman 2 hrs away does not help matters. Now I have a Babylock ellegante2 , u r going to get a lot of suggestions, read them carefully, ask more questions, & then it will b up to u to choose what is best for u & your budget. I am on my 3rd machine, the last 2 have been babylocks & I really like them for their user friendliness, they also do reg. sewing with a fantastic array of different stitches. Look around, watch some demos up close at the dealers & choose what is best for u. Happy hunting * Lillian

I'm a husky lady in more ways than one (hehehe) I have the Husqvarna Designer 1 usb and just love it. The best suggestions are those that tell you to go to the dealer and do a hands on demo then find the price and style that suit you. If some of the better machines are to high priced the dealers usually have a 'previously loved' set of machines you can get a great deal on with a good warranty. Have fun.....

Let me echo what some others have said: first, there is a place on this site called "reviews", up at the top in the blue bar. That has a lot of sewing machine reviews for you to look at, by those of us who use them. Second, and **super important**, make sure you get any machine from a dealer who is close enough to service it, and they should provide you with free lessons on how to use it. Your dealer should respect you, assess how you're going to use the machine, and NOT just go for the top of the line because their commission is better! Personally, I have a Janome 300E which I adore. It is an embroidery only machine, was inexpensive because I got it on closeout, has 4x4 & 5x7 hoops, gigahoop capacity, user friendly, a real workhorse machine. No bells & whistles. All I could really ask for that I don't have is a sensor to tell me when I'm out of bobbin thread!! I've sewn quite a few designs without bobbin thread, um, that doesn't tend to work well, hee hee hee. The difference between Janome 300E & 350E is not a lot, check it out, you might find the 300E on trade in a whole lot cheaper. Then you would have the money for Digitizer Pro. I personally like having an embroidery-only machine, because while that's doing something like FSL, I can be piecing a quilt on my regular machine. That's a matter of preference. Do make sure you get a bigger than 4x4 hoop, though. Most of the 'complaints' I hear from embroiderers is that they want a larger hoop size, just go for it in the first place. And remember, you need a larger FIELD size to go with that hoop. You can get a bigger hoop, but if your field size is 4x4, you will have to split designs. Keep asking questions, test drive machines at lots of dealers, and be sure to play "Let's Make a Deal"!! In this economy, you are definitely the boss. Those dealers want the machines gone, they should be willing to do great things for you, if they're not, go somewhere else. Just not the internet, if you can help it, ok? Good prices, but if you need service, the postage can be a killer, let along having your machine gone for weeks. Good luck!!! Marji

That's a great answer, Marji. Those are my priorities too: good dealer close by, the largest FIELD size you can afford, and some software to customize, resize and adjust, not necessarily digitizing, that's a time consuming craft!

Hello, I do not want to assume money is no object so I can only tell you my experience... I do not sew cannot even stitch a straight line.. but I love the embroidery...I do have a Janome..the 11000 and I am so happy that in not knowing what I was buying I bought the best I could afford...this machine does it all and I love it!! I have a friend in Utah who also has a Janome....great great machines......good luck with your decision...

I have the Janome 350E. I saw no point in getting the step up model since I also have a regular Janome sewing machine. My next "I Want That" is a serger & would also like to have a machine with a bigger hoop. I don't want much. I love my Brother machine. Whatever you choose make sure that there are after sales services like good help, maybe lessons and be able to deal with servicing etc.

I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer1 and have had it since 2002 - I love it so I am bias on this matter. You should go to the individual dealers and get them to show you how they work, and what size hoops they take etc as some machines have a limited hoop size. The new Husqvarna and Pfaff machines have a very big hoop now, so you don't have to split designs but again it comes down to what you can afford and what you want from a machine - Good Luck!

I have 2 Brothers (machines, that is, LOL). The small one only does 4x4 and last week, I bought a Brother Innov-is 1500D. I had a lot of help here from all my "cute" friends who helped me decide to buy locally. I love this new machine - it will do designs from 6x10, 5x7 and down from there. So far, so good and I have already received a one-on-one training class....I don't have enough time in the day to spend with these machines!!! Price made a big difference in what I bought - but, my dealer met the best price I could find. I am thrilled!!!! Good luck!

I'm a Baby Lock person. I have an Ellisimo and LOVE it! My friend has the Brother Quattro which is made in the same factory as the Ellisimo. Basically same machine. I upgraded from an XL6000 and NEVER will regret my decision.
Shop around and take a test run at some dealers' shops. Baby Lock and Brother are known for their user-friendly software... there are some wonderful choices out there.
Try to buy directly from a dealer too. Most will give free lessons on using the machine and cut you terrific deals with accessory purchases.

I'm a husky lady have two the serger and the Husqvarna Designer 1 usb and just love it. I have had Janome. First I bought the 10001 and now updated to the 11000 about 2 years ago I just could not be happier it does everything you want. The thing I like you can do ordinary sewing, quilting and embroidery with out having to have several machines or add on attachments to do embroidery. It has several ways to do embroidered designs, direct from the computer, USB Sticks, Memory cards or CD Rom A really great machine> Just have a look at one if possible and if you can afford one I'm sure you would not be disappointed. I agree that you must make sure there is a dealer nearby to help with problems and classes. I suggest you go to dealers of all makes of machines and ask them to demonstrate it to you. I did that and was most impressed by the Husqvarna. I bought mine in 1996 and it never give any trouble at all. All of the Husqvarna machines are outstanding. Also I find their digitizing program very good and the quality of it is super. A friend of mine have a Brother and her husband do all the digitizing for her and he swears by their digitizing program. I must say this man does the most wonderful digitizing.

Most importantly to me is a dealer near buy.I have a Pfaff and my dealer is within 2 miles of my home. It is important to consider what you can afford to buy also.
