Children's Sleepwear-Correct me if i'm wrong. Someone wants me to make sleepwear for children. Doesn't it have to be FLAME RETARDENT material?

Yes, I'm sure it does. Also, because of all the flap about things with lead paint coming from China, there have been new laws passed regarding clothing and toys for children. You'd have to go back in the posts to get the details and websites for these new rules and regs, I don't know them offhand, but they are very STRICT. Is this just a family friend, or someone that wants you to do this for money? Personally, I'd be really really careful about doing anything for kids nowadays, never know who might sue you. Sorry the world's come to this, but once again a few unscrupulous people have wrecked it for everyone. Do your research on this one, there's a lot of quicksand out there. And probably this should be posted in the regular forum, where lots more people will see it. This really is a sewing/embroidery question, and I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in this discussion. Hugs, Marji

I did tell the woman that i'm not going to do it because of that very reason. She's very bummed out.

Why don't you tell her to buy the fabric and then you just make it up. Then you are just sewing it and not charging for the fabric, it is up to her to get the correct fabric. Just a thought. Hugs Yvonne

Hey, Kharrriman, why don't you please post this in the regular Q&A section? You'll get lots more answers, and maybe better ones. This isn't "Personal" by any stretch of MY imagination, hee hee hee. It's about sewing, and should be in the other section, ok? Hugs, Marji

You can get flame retardent material in the children's materials at JoAnne's. I don't like the feel of it...or of the PJ's you buy either...but it IS safer! I make PJ's for my own grand daughters out of flannel...BUT would be very unlikely to do so for anyone else. However, they are 11 & 7 and are never near an open fire. But there's always candles, etc. Something to think about. I like the idea of having the lady buy the material herself, you have told her it is not flame retardent, and then you are only charging for the labor. Good luck.
