Take a look at the project section, and you will be amazed. These are done in FSL. You use the same thread in bobbin and top, and use a wash away stablizer. These are fun to make and great to give as gifts. Take a look at some that have been posted here - this is just a very small amount of the projects shared. Have fun with these. As you can probably tell, I love to do these.

noah, Beth has given you some really nice projects to review - now how are they made - 1st you will purchase a design - 2nd you selection the color embroidery threads and stabilizer (WSS - water soluable stablizer) that you will need - 3rd you load the design onto your embroidery machine - 4th you hoop your stablizer and put your embroidery thread in the top and the bobbin (both the same thread) of your machine - 5th you stitch it out - 6th you remove from you machine and hoop - carefully cutting the remaining stablizer away from the design - 7th you remove the stablizer in very warm/hot water - rinsing away the stablizer and then you pat it dry between a towel and allow to air dry or blow dry. Viola - you have yourself a beautiful Freestanding Lace Doily (FSL).

If you have to join your doily pieces do so by machine or hand if prefered before you rince the stablizer out. just trim the WSS as close as you can to the edges that you need to join. you do not need to rince all the WSS out as it will act as a starch. When just damp iron with a warm iron on the back. GoodLuck

This goes onto ultra solvy water soluble stabilizer. Once finished sewing onto, you dissolve the finished project into warm water for 10-15 minutes, then air dry, then lay on wax paper with a weight to prevent curling. There are directions and hints that come with the ultra solvy too.
