congrats on your serger, it is a limited use machine (for most of us) but is terrific for what it does. I've made my DH some covers for his keyboards and other musical equipment and didn't have to hem and double stitch the seams, worked terrific. Also I usually serge the seams on shirts etch to keep from unraveling, then I always always (at least since I've had my serger) serge my quilt edges after quilting and before putting on the binding to make sure they are smooth and straight. I've also done some quilts where the serged edge was the only edge. Bought some of those preprinted 'books' stipple quilted them then serged the edges together, came out great, have fun and enjoy your new machine.....your local Bernina dealer should have serger classes from time to time so you can check those out........

Hee hee hee, Michele, I did kind of the same thing!! My girlfriend had a serger, and I got a good deal on one so I snapped it up! It seemed like you could just do so MUCH with it! Then I tried to thread it. Hee hee hee. I certainly hope you take those classes, and learn to use it, because mine is a terrific doorstop. I love mine and use it any time I sew. You can't beat the way it seals the seams to stop any unraveling. I trim some of the kids blankets with it, made them cloth books for xmas and did some of the edges with the serger. When I make any clothing I use it to seal the edges of the seams, either together or separate so that they can lay flat. When hemming a garment (as long as the fabric is not to thin) I always serge around the bottom of the hem before I turn it to hem it. Just love mine. Tip on threading it.... After it is threaded the first time, when you need to change threads, cut the thread that is already on it 2 to 3 inches before it goes through the threading loops. Put the new spool of thread on the spindle, run it through the thread guides and tension place and tie it onto the other thread. Most of the time you only need one knot. Don't trim the strings at the knot. Gently pull the first string through the threading loops. It will work almost all of the time. Some times the know will come loose. The needles are not that hard to thread, but the loops can be a hair puller. You will love it, I'm sure.

If you dealer gives classes be sure to take them. Most sergers are capable of doing much more that what we use them for, me included!

I just got mine it is a singer, love it. I was so afraid at first, but it came w/a dvd I watched how to thread, and do not step on the throttle like I'm a speedway it works really nice. Slow and easy and it is great.

Mine has been in the closet for at least 10 years. I had lessons from the dealer and made a "sample" book with instructions written on them. I think everyone I knew got a pair of pajamas, or napkins. The kids size PJs take about a half hour. Have fun--maybe I'll get mine out. (I hate threading it) I did see a TV program where the lady was sewing quilt blocks with a serger--super fast.

I had a bernina serger and loved it...so sorry I got a different one..it was great to use and didn't require a lot of tension adjustments..you bought a great serger...have fun.
