Thanks Shirlene, I got 9/11 but was blown away by the Iranian question!!!!
I thought Iranians only ever eat with their left hands because the right hand is only used for wiping your bottom. Thus punishment for theft is to cut off the left hand, which means the criminal, for the rest of his life, is forced to use his butt-wiping hand to eat with and that is considered the worst of punishments and he is shunned by the masses.

If it isn't the Iranians, which Middle East people is it?

hugs n roses, M

Trick question!!!

Meganne....TMI hahaha (too much information)
by mops 26 May 2009
Meg, it's the right hand for eating, the left from less savoury jobs, and they cut of the right hand so a thief would starve or has to use the left hand. And it applies to most Islamic countries, which include Iran.

TMI for sure! I am left handed. Oh no!

Can you imagine, sitting round a large bowl of couscous, everyone dipping in with their hands and you telling your children: mind your manners now, use your right hand.

Martine, you are well traveled or know alot about customs in other countries. Great! *4u
by mops 27 May 2009
Not so much well travelled as well read, I'm afraid. Have never been outside Europe except flying to St.Maarten (Dutch Antilles) to board a sailing vessel, spend half a day in the Bermudas on the way back to Rotterdam and saw mostly water -as expected. And the European countries I've visited I can count on one hand.
