Just found out that the only sewing store in my city has closed. The nearest one is about an hour away...YUCK ;D

Happened here, too. I have to drive 30 to the next state to the closest big one, or 20 min to a quilt shop. This economy is the in the pits!

I can relate, with the exception of walmart I have to go 35 miles south or 25 miles north to find fabric, unless of course you go to a quilt shop but I can't really afford to hoard my fabrics at $10 yd the way they charge, sniff sniff, of well I've got my 40% coupon and off to Joanns I go and then me and brenda hit our local japanese restaurant, she gets sushi (yuk)and I get steak and shrimp! (yum) no that's lunch!!!!!

What a bummer! I'm glad there are about four quilt shops all within an hour drive from me. Our Walmart stinks. There are two JoAnn's within a 45 minutes to hour drive also. I would go crazy if I couldn't just go whenever....It seems I always need something. LOL

Sounds familiar !!! I left this morning at 9:45 to take my ULT 2001 in for a tune up....visited the 3 Brother dealers that I have gone to before and all 3 were gone...finally got wise and phoned the number I had and finally found where one of them had moved to....Took me all morning and some of the afternoon, which required me eating lunch out !!!...Real pain as they are not just next door so burned up a fair bit of gas especially with the price the way it is...Oh well at least I found them...Brother dealers are few and far between around this area...can feel for you D...

Oh Monica u feel like I did when I found out they closed the Hancock's Store here, but at least they opened a Hobby Lobby, that helped but still it's not a Hancocks or JoAnns *

When I have to go to a fabric store it takes me about 45 min. one way to the closest fabric store. I try to wait until I need plenty, before making the long trip. I also wonder why more fabric stores do not open. I do not want to order over the internet, because I like to feel the fabric before I purchase any. H&*.

The big chain stores are taking over with there cheap stuff & a lot buy it as clothing is made to last one year (if u are lucky) Not enough people in one area is buying to keep the store operating. the big stores are ruling the roost & our children will regreat that we didn't buy local goods

We have so many stores I can go to 5 within 30 minutes (and that's only because of the lights).
