I don't know much but I know you have to have a needle designed for matalic thread. it has a big eye in it.wish I could help you more.

metalic thread breaks if it gets to hot, might slow down machine and/or stop so needle won't get too hot...also have a metalic thread needle to use...I would use a washaway stabilizer so it won't be seen when you are finished...BUT a pro will be along to help you out. You might go in to the project link and see others who have done it to ask them personally....good luck

I have found that the closer the spool is to the machine, the better, (as in ON the machine as opposed to a thread stand) Also it helps to have a thread net on your spool and have your spool in the horizontal position. The packing peanut idea (I think it was Jerrilyn's) can sometimes help too. Sorry I couldn't find the post, it's lost in the void of freebie posts. LOL!

I bought lovely Madeira Metallic thread from All stitch, but I haven't used it yet, have used a cheap brand with success using the method described above, with a Schmetz metallic embroidery needle.

Good luck and enjoy, make sure you reduce your stitch speed, but don't be afraid, the end result is worth a little hassle.

I hope you can slow your machine down, that is no 1 and also put in needle with larger eye as already suggested you can buy special needle and feel that is a must too.
By slowing the machine I never have a problem.
If you get an odd break in thread, just go back 1 stitch and carry on. Good luck

Laura, I think that the largest spool of thread that you can buy - is the best - a net - a thread stand - I see why Meg would say to use it closest to the machine (so that the thread can not unwind and cause some trouble) - the metallic needle - good quality thread - I bought mine from The Embroidery Store and hadly ever have any trouble with it - 1-800-504-9757 or EmbStore.com - I do wish you luck or and I think you could get away with using the regular bobbin thread with it - but test it out first on material of similair weight.

I always use a metallic needle, slow machine to slowest rate have good success with all metallic thread except sulky, my machine will not sew sulky well. I like anton robinson thread for their gold. *
