This is so very important...what if your hard drive crashed? Do you value the time and effort that you have put into downloading or digitizing your designs? Do it this week!!

When I download about 10 to 20 designs at a time, I immediately put them on my flash drive. I also copy each design picture so I can use it as a reference when I'm embroidering. Debbie (the Wal-Mart lady)

I do a scan for secutity threaths on every design I DL and at the end of the day I do an anti virus check on my whole computer and then DL all my designs to an external hard drive. I've learned the hard way when I had a computer crashed a few years back, I don't take any chances with my new one.

My DH does it for me every other day or so, I just put my zipped folders onto a seperate hard drive (?) and then hubby groups them in bunches of 200. This is of course after I have unzipped and sorted them all. That way in the event of a crash I've got em on another hard drive. I think he also has them on cd - just in case.......

I backed mine up last weekend and yesterday my machine died! Looking to replace it with a Janome - I had a Brother - but my library is all pes. Ah! well, that;s life.

Aren't you happy you back it all up last week? You know there is free software out there that will convert your pes to other formats? Just ask these sweet "cuties" and they will let you know where to find it!!!!* Good luck!

I back up as I download onto my external hard drive..I rename files (keeping the original tag and just adding a category name such as FSL for all my fsl designs) to keep them in an order for quicker access to them.

I have all of mine on a external memory stick. It has a BIG red ribbon on it to help me keep it in sight. I have folder categories such as baby, flowers, butterfly, Christmas, etc.

Yes USB sticks are notorious for corrupting and/or breaking.
They were created as 'temporary' portable storage devices to transfer stuff between work and home, never meant to be permanent storage devices.
Could save you much heartache to ensure you also save to DVD's or CD's.

I keep my designs on an external hard drive. When I got a virus on my computer last year, my designs were safe and sound on the external drive. But just in case, I burn them to CD's from time to time. Memory sticks corrupt sometimes so I only use them for temporary/portable storage of photos and music.

today...my version of Norton has a scheduled back up feature so the hard drive gets backed up once a week. the flash drives get backed up once a month because they don't change as often. suggestion...have an off site storage for back ups just in case of fire :)

Both laptop and pc backed up three times each week, automatically, to six different files.
I'll give myself a pat on the back now for being such a smart ass. LOL!!!!

You need to give yourself a pat on the back - so many people don't backup their PC's at all then if their hard drive crashes - they are devestated! Three times a week is wonderful! You obviously value your data!* Hugs to you!!!* Laura

I did my files on Sunday 7/19/09, My son installed a Synicroniser, so once a week, I just run it! I am so glad, I have lost toooooo many designs by not backing up! My flash drive zonked that I had all my designs from Yoriko on, and I have been heartsick. I did not have them backed up then! Thanks for the reminder. **4U

How would I do a back up if my files are on cd's.I don't keep them on my hard drive so I can save my memory.I need to do this just don't know how to go about it. Thanks for any advice

You could always back them up on another set of CD's....or on an external hard drive, if you or anyone in your family has one.
