Use them in your bobbin when doing FSL.

I save all my clippings and put them in little bags, made out a material like the one you use to wrap roses, or the one you use to protect your threads, you know what I am talking about? if not I will send you a picture...then my grandkids hang them on their trees and little birds come to get the thread for their nest, they have lots of little birds since we started doing this, you can PM if you want to see one....little bird will love you, will not see one piece of thread left on your lawn, they take it all.****

Try to put it overnight in you freezer. If it helps - you can use it again, or just throw it away. The birds will enjoy building nests with it.

Cut lengths of thread and small pieces of scrap fabric. Place between two pieces of solvy and sew freehand over the sandwich, wash away the solvy and you will have a lovely piece of lace....Used to have instructions for doing this however I can't find them but maybe someone else remembers.

Hi, have you tried spraying the spools with a pure silicon (available at car part stores). Spray, leave for 10 minutes or so and then try embroidering. Doesnt stain etc but if uncertain try on something that isnt important. Should reduce the breakages it may be that all it is, is that your thread has dried out!

Thank you all for your answers. Now I have some ideas of what I can use it for.

Put it in a plastic bag and pop in the deepfreezer for a couple hours and try it again.

Use them for the threads orns. There was a dl for a star not too long ago. And Lillian did a beautiful turkey using thread tails. (For the turkey tail! hee hee) I'll see if I can find the link for that star orns.

I saw some clear glass ornaments that were filled with thread trimmings . I may get some of these and try it out. Should be pretty with the different colors. . I know I will come up with something . I am a crafter from way back .

Thank you for asking this question, for I too have some thread that breaks. This also may be that it is growing old and is starting to deteriorate so is not good for the machine. I am noting all of the suggestions but I love Maria and Carin's idea to give it to the birds! Following on from Zedna's idea: place fine sprinklings of cut threads between two layers of waxed lunchwrap paper with waxed sides together, iron and use for wrapping paper. I have spool of black thread that used to break on me all the time, I used the silicon spray on it as Sanma suggest to you and it worked. Most fabric stores will carry it as it used to help fabrics that are hard to slide under the presser foot (ie. vinyl)

I have been using a All-Purpose Sewer's Aid. Comes in 1/2 oz bottle and most fabric stores carry it. I just run the tip of the bottle up and down on the thread and it works great. Let it sit to soak in before you use it. So far it hasen't stained any thing that I use it on.
