Hi cuties, I have a huqvarna designer 1 with disk, I can upgrade it to USB with around 400§, is it worthwhile ? Is it really better?

Well the answer to that one is IF IT WORKS WHY FIX IT if you are happy to use a disc and can add and remove designs from it then why spend out money just to use a $5 usb pen. its a bit like putting a new engine into a car just so you can carry another person when you allready have enough room to do so.

I still have my designer 1 with disk.....I love it. The only worry I have right now is getting disk as they are becoming hard to find as well as computers now are coming out with usb drives. I still haven't decided on whether I should upgrade to the USB as well. I also agree with annie its not broke why do something to it could make worst. I'll keep checking back to see other responses.

I had trouble finding 3.5" disk, but found I had plenty already, just needed to save some down to the hard drive. Labeling folders just like the floppies, erase and consolidate. Now I have plenty.
I have a lot of disk, so it is well

I still have my Designer 1 with disks. I did not want to spend some € 400 only to be able to use an USB stick. I have lots of disks, clearly labeled and catalogued, easy to find. My new laptop does not have a 3.5" drive, but an external one can be bought cheaply. My machine is 10 years old, so I'd rather trade it in for a new one - preferably a Diamond.

thank you for your advice

Long as it works, don't mess with it. I have a Diamond & a SE. Yes, I do use the stick as it's quick to put designs on..BUT I do suggest you stock up on the disks when you can as they do wear out. I would store my designs on something else. I personally would rather spend that money on an external drive to store all your designs on, then back them up with CD's keeping all your disks for use with the machine.

You will find the machine loads the designs much slower because it has to read the entire usb stick when loading. And you can only put the usb stick that comes with it in the machine, unlike most of the other machines. All of the other advice you have gotten is great!

you can use any usb flash drive not only the one that comes with it. the one that came with mine is the only one that will not work but I bought a few real cheap and they all work great.
Thank you for those informayions

Will you be able to hook the machine up to your computer then? If so, I'd say go for it! I have mine directly attached to my laptop which makes it nice to transfer files. :-)

thank you, simplyrosie, with that I could only use a usb key instezd of disk, but not directly to the computer

Hi Claude, I agree with most of Cuties who consider it's not necessary. You'll not hae better embroideries. And it's very expensive for the little benefit you'll get ! Keep your money and later, may be, you'll buy a new machine. But Designer is a good machine. Rather buy some accessories you may need. Bisous
