Well.... we are in the middle of winter at the moment, and it seems like a nice way to cheer things up! Or maybe just getting a head-start on the Christmas sewing. Seriously though - Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Saviour, and I believe it should be respected for that, not commercialised!

I certainly wish them well, as I do other merchandisers. However, none of them are getting my family's cash this year. Our family is working on teaching the kids that toys and things that aren't taken care of are a true waste of money. We all know the kids who are excited, open their presents, and then wind up playing with the boxes they came in.

Our grandkids are getting savings bonds from us this year.

I worked at a very well known retailer for 12 years . This christmas in July was just another gimick to get your cash. But some folks liked dthe Christmas fabrics (no longer offered at this store )
so they could get started on their projects.Guess it is just how you looked at it . The music is a little much right now .
I agree that it is our saviors birth and it is wa too commercialized . For years now if i didnt male it , they didnt get it . It is a part of giving of myself. And all the grands get something they cant "take back' or not remember who gave it to them . All the kids are joining in and now I get their "homemade with love " gifts ! They shine all year 1

I agree with this holiday being pushed on the public w-a-y too early. Even Hobby Lobby has rows and rows of Christmas ornaments already. I understand the economy is down and things are difficult for many, but I really don't enjoy seeing Christmas advertised in the summer months.

We waited all winter for summer, and that's what I want now. Yes maybe a Scrooge, but I don't much even visit the projects area until the Christmas stuff is out. (for now) I was in Ross yesterday and they had Halloween stuff out. Boo!

let the sun shine! it's summer here, but with the rain. I do love christmas time, but I'm not thinking of christmas now.

If you think about it Bev, we really only have 4 months with no Christmas stuff...

July - Christmas in July
August - Sales from Christmas in July stuff left over
September - Christmas stuff starts coming out
October - Still out
November - Still out too
December - OMGosh, really still out
January - After Christmas sales (50% off)
February - More after Chrsitmas sales (60-75% off)
March - Then we see 90% off and it's finally gone until July

So there you have it my friend... :-)

It's the economy, sales are abysmal! However, I think retailers better start re-thinking their tactics, because if we don't have money, we don't have money, period, whether it's for a fake "Christmas" or not. People are beginning to understand that 'value' does NOT equal 'dollars spent', and making gifts, spending time with folks dear to them instead of blowing cash on them. I think it was about time for this wake up call. Now, for embroidery, we have Christmas designs, and it's a good time to get a start on gifts, so we can actually spend time with people over the holidays, not be sitting up sewing till 4AM!! I understand that part. But I do think I can wait for that set of lights till December. Vote with your feet, my friends, don't shop there, and tell them why!! Hugs, Marji
