What do most "Cuties" have, laptop or desktop computers. I have both but my dt needs a lot of upgrading and I am thinking about getting another computer ;D

My computers crashed, thanks to a virus I contracted from someone. ;-( So I had to buy a new one. I use a laptop. I can plug my monitor, keyboard and mouse in if I want, or just use the ones that came on board.
If you're using a lot of graphics Monica, make sure you get a good video card with dedicated memory. Shop around and speak to some IT professionals. Don't just buy one on sale at Best Buy... you'll have this machine for several years, LORD willing.

Thanks Teri, sorry to hear yours crashed. You will have one in no time. Indeed I plan to have it for years :) I forgot that you can purchase a monitor and keyboard...FIESTA ;D *2U
Monica, if you get a good laptop, you don't need a monitor and keyboard separately. The new ones have beautiful liquid crystal widescreens that are wonderful, and, if you wear bifocals, the laptop screen is in the right place for your glasses, you're looking down. The desktop screen is the pits with bifocals, I get a crick in my neck trying to look 'up' out of the bottom of my glasses. You'll get used to the keyboard, it's actually less work that a regular keyboard, less movement. When you get used to it, you'll never want to go back. Consider a trackball mouse, whatever you do, they're the best mouses, don't need a mouse pad, you move the ball, not the mouse. Hugs, Marji
Marji, I was wondering whether this kind of mouse had the plural mice as well - thought it might be different and you gave the answer. I hate touchpads and use a mouse or a tablet.
If I'm going to type a lot the reason I use my plug in keyboard is because it's ergonomic... also, even though I have a 16" screen on my laptop, I sometimes plug into the 24" widescreen graphics monitor I have. Sometimes I restore photos for customers and need to have a large screen with intense detail.... otherwise, as Marji suggested, the screens on the laptop are sufficient for daily use.
Hee hee, Martine, I don't know if it's "mouses" or "mice", kind of a silly name, anyway. I say "mouses" just to be obstinate, probably, hee hee hee. I used a trackball mouse when I did digital audio editing, all the controls at your fingertips, no moving the mouse. And Teri, yes, if you're doing work like that, the 24" widescreen is great! For digitizing, I find the laptop screen sufficinet. Of course, I like the touchpad, so what can I say? Hee hee hee, hugs, Marji

My late DH got me a laptop when he got my embroidery machine and Digitizer Pro, and he was a computer expert, so he got me the 'right' laptop. We have a super-powerful desktop with probably 100 Gig of space and a fast RAM because of doing film editing. However, I rarely even turn it on. I digitize on the laptop, and I love it. I can take it anywhere to work or do e-mail. If I'm sick I can use it in bed. I'd never buy another desktop again. Hugs, Marji

I have 2 laptops, one I use everyday for just
e-mails and downloading or purchasing designs. I save all my designs on memory sticks, then I can transfer them to my second laptop that is only used with my embroidery machine. The second laptop also has my printer, scanner and my dongle for my program attached to it. That way I don't have to unhook or attach anything when I want to embroider. Lynn

I have a desktop and hate being stuck in the den. I'm saving for a laptop so I can sit next to my hubbie and digitize or take the laptop into my sewing room. Good luck!

I have no idea but I do what something with POWER ;D *2U
If you don't have a DH or friend that can go with you to get the 'power' you want, they might try to sell you a 'little old lady' computer. Put on an outrageous outfit and tell the computer store that you're a 'gamer'! Hee hee hee, but really, you need the kind of computer they sell to the kids who play the online games, that'll give you enough RAM, those games are very RAM intensive. Hugs, Marji
I bought a new laptop 2 or 3 months ago. DH went with me. Every question I asked was answered - to my husband. The guy never looked at me, so I asked DH to look what a cordless mouse cost. Then I got his attention... hee hee. I got 4 Gb RAM and 500 gig memory. That will last me some time. My old laptop (5 years old) has a magenta screen - other than that it's still perfect and I use it for email and back-up purposes. And sometimes a run a tutorial on the old one (hooked up to a separate monitor) and do the exercises on the new one.
Oh, isn't that frustrating, when salespeople talk to the men like we're totally ignorant!! Same thing buying a car, they show you the cupholders, DH the engine, grrr. Hugs, Marji

I have an old desktop and it is so slow that I can do all the cleaning in one room while I wait for it to download a design or change sites. I guess I can't complain because I embroidery and clean my house at the same time.

I have a laptop that is networked into our main computer in the office. I can work on it anywhere in the house. Love being able to take it into my sewing room while I am stitching. I like to digitize in the sunroom or out on the deck. Our pond is so peaceful to digitize by and my dog loves to sit out there with me. :)

Isn't it super? I love to have mine by the machine with the design open, because sometimes I forget the thread colors I've chosen, or something about the design. And I can keep up with everything while still stitching. My, my, if our Mothers could see us now! My Mom passed away over 20 years ago, she'd never believe it! Hugs, Marji
Must be nice to have the peace to create. I have my laptop in my sewing room and hope to be replacing the dt soon ;D *2U

I used to think the desktop and didn't really want a laptop but my DH knew better and bought me a laptop earlier this year. Now I wouldn't go back! A good laptop does everything a desktop will do with portability! I do have a 'real' mouse which plugs in the usb as I get frustrated with the touchpad. Hubby is a bit of a techy so we have wireless broadband and the printers set up with wireless access too. I have the laptop next to my sewing machine and it's great!

Ditto except for the mouse. I came to terms with the touchpad, and even digitize with it. Laptop is the greatest! Hugs, M
Wireless sounds good. I have to figure out how to do all that great stuff ;D *2U

laptop is the way to go as you can use it anywhere as a desktop has to be in one place. I have both but when the desktop dies............it will be replaced with another laptop. My opinion.

I have a laptop and 3 desktops the lap I use more than any other 1 I have set as my phone line computer since I have the magicjack for my phone another is a older computer that my husband uses only he is not allowed on any other since he knows nothing about computers and ends up dl all kinds of things into it, I just had to fix it he dl some spam and everytime you opened browser spam files popped open everywere. I keep telling hime stop clicking things but he still does and says it wasn't me it just happened. then I have to spend and afternoon going through all the registry files deleting it out what a pain. the other desk is not even used I have it as a back up incase one of mine die. I have both. The desktop is a family computer, but the laptop is mine. I bought it for my embroidery. I got a laptop because sometimes I take my machine with me to embroider at someone else's house and then I can take my designs and software with me.

I have a desktop and a mini laptop. The mini is strictly for embroidery. I also have an external hard drive that I can connect to either. I have all my designs on the external. DH is a computer geek so he makes sure I have all the bells and whistles. My desktop even has Windows 7 and it is great. None of the issues that came with Vista.

How do you enjoy your mini laptop? ;D *2U
