Shusana, counter top is always the preference of the one that will be using it - are you every thinking of selling your home? If so - go with the granite, it helps the sale. Otherwise - use what you like and what you can afford. *4U

I have granite in my kitchen and love it. I use our 3 1/2 ft by 7 ft island to sew on all the time. The benefit would be granite doesn't scratch or burn like corian. I have to agree with Shusana though, it is the preference of the owner/user. Best of luck in whatever decision you make.

Granite as u don't have to worry that a hot pot will melt it. Hot dishes sitting on heat retainers dosn't look as nice as sitting straight on the table top. That is if u can get a granite to blend in with your room

Well, I don't know, but I had Corian in one of my kitchens, and I adored it. Easy to clean, don't have to be fussy like with granite. But then, I absolutely hate to clean, or fuss with anything. I had marble windowsills once that were lovely, but a total pain. I never had granite, but it is stone, after all, and if someone bangs a dish or glass down on it too hard, it's going to shatter.
