Font: NOUN: Printing. A complete set of type of one size and face.
Alphabet: NOUN: 1. The letters of a language, arranged in the order fixed by custom.
2. A system of characters or symbols representing sounds or things.
In my opinion they are interchangeable.

A font is actually a style of typeface used in printing. In your Word program, you have many fonts to choose from in the English alphabet. An alphabet (actually coming from the Greek, 'alpha'=A, "beta"=B, the first two letters of the Greek 'alpha-beta' or alphabet). An alphabet is technically the characters or symbols that make up the basis of a written language. That being said, embroiderers seem to use the words interchangably. I think what may have happened is that digitizers have actually digitized a 'font', like Meganne's Moonstar font, and then people began calling alphabets fonts. For example, Meganne's Moonstar is an actual font, or typeface, that has been digitized. Yoriko's Penguin alphabet is an alphabet, because it is not something that would be used in printing, it has the penguins. Likewise, the new School Friends is actually an alphabet, because it contains the graphic of the children. The letters of that alphabet are the font style. Confused enuf yet? hee hee hee. Honestly, Monica, I wouldn't stress about it just label them however you can find them. I would label just 'letters' as the font, and 'letters with pictures or graphics' as alphabets, if you want. Good luck. Hugs, Marji

Thanks so much Marj for your help. Yes, I won't stress myself anymore about what to call them. I will label according to what I will remember ;D *2U
