Any hints for keeping your sewing room smelling fresh? With our machines being fragile we must be careful in what we spray, burn, etc. TIA ;D

Hi .. I buy those little bottles of essential oils that have little bamboo sticks which you put in and they soak up the oil. They smell beautiful and last for months. No worries about burning candles or sprays getting on anything. Very much safer.

This is a good question. My sewing room is in the dining area which in turn is part of the great room (kitchen, dining, living, office desk area. There are 1/2 walls but it is all open. When I have taken in alterations or customer orders I'm careful about what I cook and I keep the items in zip locks so I do not get our smells in their stuff. Good thing we are not smokers and don't have pets, it makes it easier.

I use essential oils in an oil burner keeps the room smelling fresh... do not use the cheap man made oils they leave you with a headache while they are burning. a good mix is Lemon 4drops...spearmint 3drops...orange 4drops. fabric in the room has a citrus smell to them. also good source or Vitamin C.

We have to be careful with all this chemical stuff not only because of our precious machines but because of our personal health too.
All these products overwhelm your senses and could cause allergic reactions- and they are expensive too. They just cover the "problem".
Do you know, where it comes from? Is it the building? Mouldy walls? Or do you have a smoker around?
Personally I banned all the "dust collectors" out of my room (no carpet, no curtain) just a wooden floor which is easily cleaned up.
And I use to prewash all my fabrics (it is a kind of initiation ritual: it rinses out the chemical stuff which smells so musty and prevents shrinking surprises with the ready project)- so this stock is doing a good job for air refreshment.

that is why i buy essential oils they are extracted from flower, fruit or roots of plants no chemicals in them. just put a few drops in water in a oil burner and use a small candle to heat the water enough to cause a vapour for the fragrance to escape. very healing and calming!!!

I have Rosemary growing just outside my back door and (when I remember) I cut some sprigs and put them in a vase.
Also when I think of it, I like to burn vanilla or musk in an oil burner, but mostly I just rely on the Air-o-zone (battery operated) automatic air fresheners that send out a puff of perfumed spray every 20 minutes or so, I like to use the Franjipani in those, or the natural odour killer.
I hope I don't have any bad odour problems 'cause even your best friends won't tell you if you do. LOL!!

I keep a new box of dryer sheets in the sewing room. It seems that the Costco brand are potent enough to disperse the odor even if the box is closed! Have to seal it inside of 2 zipper lock bags when my allergic friends or family visit, though.

I put a candle on the eye of the old coffee maker and let it melt the wax/smells great with no wick burning to get smoke or smokes fumes in the room. I use warm apple pie scent. It smells just like I have a pie in the oven. It turns off ever so often and I have to get up and turn it back on.

The candle is in a jar and comes from Walmart. I think it is about $9.00 but it last forever. I know my explantion made no sense last night. My DIL has a very sensitive nose and she loves the odor. It is not strong but you can smell it throughout the whole house after it has been on for awhile. The coffee maker had an auto turn off after so long so if the house gets to smelling real good you do not notice for awhile when the coffee maker goes off. I have 2 Pekingese in the house and they are clean but they are dogs. My DIL says she can smell them when she comes in the house if the candles are not on. No one else, not even my son says they can smell them but my DIL can. She will not let her dog in the house! They have tried to get me to take it but I do not want another old dog to get sick on me. I have a 13 1/2 yr. old Pekingese that has cancer and I spend alot of time with her and it is killing me that I might have to have her put down at any time now. I have had my angel since the day she was born and I love her like she was my child. I also have a 4 yr old Peke that is rotten as can be! With my arthritis and my leg situation, I do not want another "old" baby to have to go through all of this with. I do want another young Pekingese but not until I can give it some one on one time. My 4 yr old is adopted and has turned out to be a wonderful baby! I got her off Petfinders.com and went to Tn. to get her in Oct of 2007. She was a handful! She was so scared and wild when I brought her home. She is so sweet and loving and minds better than any baby I have ever had! She is a smart little gal! Of course she is still a handful because she is a baby but I would not have it any other way. She gives me more love and laughs than I ever dreamed that she would when I brought her home. She lost her first human mommy and went into foster care for 7 months with alot of big dogs. She had to learn how to fend for herself. It took her about a week to feel secure with a new mommy. She does like to be the alpha dog in the house but the other baby is so sweet that she could care less. They are both Mama's girls!

The local Michael's has some candles that smell wonderful, even thru the package. I have never lit mine, but, the fragrance is wonderful. It is made by YANKEE CANDLE GOOD AIR ODOR ELIMINATING. I purchased the trial size candle for $.99. I have several through out my house.

i have a eletric candel no wick just a smalle light blub inside but it lets off just enough smell to be nice and not overwelming as i have very bad allergies you can get them at a small gift shop they run around $15.00 i have had mine for over a year and it still smells like the day i bought it and it looks like a real candel but its not its the best i have found so far
