When using your scissors it is always best to either lay them flat or hang them. Placing your scissors in a cup, or anytype of hard container (like glass, ceramic, etc.) can damage the point of the scissors. After extended amounts of time of dropping them in there will make the points break. This will add to the expense of replacing your scissors. Why pay more money on something that can be prevented.

Great tip!!!

I keep my scissors in the plastic covers they came in and they all lay flat in their respective drawers.

All my knives have hard cardboard covers on the blades to prevent dulling or nicking them if they come into contact with other knives. They should not be kept in drawers without such covers for safety reasons as well, it is too easy to cut yourself on a bare blade while reaching into a drawer and it is dangerous for children.

I don't like knife blocks as they can be a breeding place for little household bugs. Eiuw!!!

Anyone wishing more info on making knife blade covers, let me know and I'll post some pictures.

Ray made all mine.

I store mine flat in a drawer, in the box if they came in one. So far so good, but I tend to sweep them of the table now and again.

I use a holder that clips on to my shirt--I love it. Mine is a little different than the one shown.

"The holder is clipped to your garment. As you are working you can pull the scissors and the scissors will retract out of the holder on a cord. When you have made your cut you can release the scissors and the cord will gently retract back in the holder. This is a great way to keep your scissors handy and close by rather than loosing them in the cushion covers on under things on the table."

When I'm not using them, I store them in case.

I have always kept mine in their case in my drawer. I still have the pair I purchased in Junior High for a sewing class. My DH just keeps them sharpened for me. Of course I have others and do use them. But this pair is used more than the others. No I won't say how old they are. :)
