Well, I think maybe my Mom would win. When I was going through her stash, sorting and washing & ironing, getting ready to start a string quilt, I found this really old fashioned material. When I went to iron it, I saw that it was a half finished "sun-suit", you older ladies will understand that phrase. Now, judging from the size of it, and the size I remember my mother to have been, I'm going to say it was started sometime in the late 1930's or early 1940's. Knowing Mom, she probably kept it to use the material for something. When she passed on 20 years ago, I inherited her stash, and you see how long it's taken me to get to it! I don't know if it's the most outstanding UFO, but I think Mom and I should get the prize for procrastination, anyway, hee hee hee. Well, I think I can tie you, Marji, or just beat you by a hair. I have a quilt top dating somewhere between 1935 to 1937 that was given to my mother, made with scraps from my baby/toddler dresses. She never got it made up and gave it to me about 50 years ago for me to get done. Maybe now that I have joined a group which does a raffle quilt each year, maybe, just maybe, I might get up the ambition to make it up for my granddaughter who is now 2 1/2.

I have a whole box of unfinished stuff for a Christmas Fair at the elementary school from when my daughter was 5. She's now 32. Can't come close to Marji's. -- but I bet I have more--QUILTS, crochet, QUILTS, porcelain dolls, QUILTS, tole painting stuff, QUILTS, towels to embroider, bibs, Christmas stockings, and more QUILTS. I really should get rid of some stuff on ebay, but then what would I do with all that extra space? :)

Early this year i sorted out all my,UFOS into containers,included is matching threads wound bobbins ect. When i now work on any of these i dont have to search for missing bits. I now look forward to compleating each project.

I can't compete with some of these ladies asterixsew, although I do have a latch-hook rug that's been 'two-thirds finished' for thirty years. Also, I have numerous other UFO's. In fact, if I finished all my UFO's, I would then have enough space in my playroom to be able to do some new projects - and make some new UFO's to fill my room again, haha. I sew, knit and crochet and don't ever have any UFO's. I finish one item at a time. This is what my mother taught me and she didn't have any UFO's either.
Now if I could just teach my daughter the same ;-)

I have a huge tote full of ufo's. I think the oldest has been re-assigned to a new project. I bought some navy blue floral fabric to make a blouse for my daughter when she was in grade school. That was about 30 years ago. I decided to put the fabric in a quilt top. No, the quilt's not done yet either, but I'm working on it.

Too embarrassed to answer this one. LOL OK, a hand embroidered wall hanging for my first child (he is 21) with his name, birth date, etc. I got the embroidery machine and have a hard time finishing the hand stuff.

Hey there are some brilliant answers to my question. And there was me worrying that I had work of just under a year outstanding. Over the summmer I have made inroads into outstanding requests. Thinking I dou have a dress - 3 years, skirt, about the same and a blouse - 5years to complete. The blouse only needs buttonholes... plus 3 hats - under a year AND the loose cover for my friends chair is nearly..... done this goes back to November last. I started a cross stitch panel depicting Dutch national costumes (yes, there are more than just the fancy one you see in so-called Dutch girl embroidery designs) in 1973. I have only about a tenth to do and get it framed, but by now my eyesight isn't what it was back then and there are 7 cross stitched to the cm, or 18 in every inch.<br />Then there's the Winter scene - cross stitch too - started in 1972; a Christmas quilt done in 1991 that is only partly quilted, but has been used every Christmas (and giving me guilt pangs while hanging there for all to see). A nice knitted cardigan for my granddaughter still missing one sleeve (started almost two years ago, but now just right for her younger cousin).<br />My sewing and embroidery machines have taken over - and digitizing, which is far less sociable than hand things as my husband frequently reminds me of.

Oh boy you ladies have me beat. I do have UFos nicely labled in totes not helping the situation I just move the totes around. And the few thing I need to bind to complete just get moved around in piles. I am however trying to finish my first paper pieced quilt. It is made with paper patterns and I have had to remove the paper from the back for almost two years. Almost all done then off to the quilters. I also have several lovely packaged quilts not even started but as I have heard from quilters friends and friends here this is an epidemic. Glad we are all in it together. Thanks for asking.

I've probably got u all beat. I have 3 Christmas purses started 3 yrs. ago. Still not done. Have about 5 hand cross stitched projects my mom started for my girls 20 + yrs ago(mom's passed away 19 yrs ago) I was suppose to finish ea, one for ea. of my daughters & myself. Had them out looking at them just last week. Geez Louize! Just cannot bring myself to start on them. On top of everything else the Fair starts in 2 weeks & they r wanting to know"what are u entering this yr?" I have no idea. I've given just about everything I have done away except for a couple of quilts. Oh well time waits for no man or woman LOL. I've been behind all my life. Wonder what I'll leave for my girls to have to finish up. *

Several yrs. ago Mary Maxim had a kit to knit the sleeves of a jacket and then you used quilted fabric for the body... I had found the sleeves and couldn't find the fabric or the pattern...I just found both...and now can't remember WHY I even thought I'd like something like that...So I MIGHT finish is and give it to my MOM...! I'm thinking it is from the 70's just by looking at the design! YUCK

I have an afghan,King size, that I have been working on for 4 years now...........a pair of mittens 3/4 done started in 1996...........and some others things.

Caroline, what a great question and I love the answers so far - what a trip down memory lane these have all brought up. Hehehe! My Mother was born in 1928 - she is the exact same age as Shirley Temple - so she got a Shirley Temple doll when she was three - 1931 - her grandmother (my Great granmother) had started a crazy patch quilt - when my grandmother - her daughter was three - so when my Mother was playing with her Shirley Temple doll out at the farm one year - my great granmother brought out that UFO crazy patch quilt and my Mother played with it - with her doll and both she and my grandmother and my Mother all swore that they would finish up that crazy patch quilt - it never got finished - such a heartwarming but sad story - as that quilt was started in 1913. Now I don't call that my UFO - but it sure is my families. I have a lovely embroidered bowl on suede that I started in a class about five years ago - that I was supposed to satin stitch around the outside edges - to finish it off and have never done that - I might have to find that and see if I can finish it - as I know my daughter - it would never get finished by her - she would toss that out in a minute - she has never liked holding on to any old - in her life - however - my Mother did give her an old telephone that was made in 1928 that she has hanging on her wall - which I am so shocked to see there - each and every time that I walk into her house. I hope if nothing else - this brings up fun and loving memories for you each - as when I think of my Mother - I think of all the UFO's that she had that I had to let go to the goodwill in January - as I just didn't have a place for them - a roomful for sure - but I know that they made someone happy to have them - hopefully - they finished them up and are enjoying them now. 6 years, I'm ashamed to say. It's a single quilt, top is all finished; just hvn't put the darn thing together :) I won't ponder the reasons........sometimes we need a shot of energy & enthusiasium (sp). I also made the dolls that you see<br />I reckon the little girl this is for will be in University or something before she gets it (only joking).

The most UFO'S?! I have about 30! LOL! I'm inspired, I think I will try to finish one of them, but which one to choose?! LOL! Thanks for the inspiration!
