My dear Monica I do believe this has happened to the best of us. I bought myself a rather large seam ripper with a soft handle & I seem to have better control with the larger one. I never drop it nor does it go astray while doing the frog rippit, rippit *

I too have been challenged by the oops syndrome! I like to work with my snips, using just one edge. The point is very slim which makes it easy to view the color of the thread on the tip. I have not cut my fabric since using it since there isn't so much forcing. It just sort of glides. Glad it worked out for you, at least we have an embroidery machine to heal the booboo!

Ooooops Monica, but you're not alone, I think we've all done that one, haha. It could have been worse though, it could have been your finger that got ripped. Love and hugs sweetie.

I don't have any safety tips but I can't even start to count how many button holes I have cut thru. Some of them I cut all the way thru the button hole and the plaque. Try to fix one of those oops!

Depends on what you are ripping. When you cut a buttonhole open you could use the mini scissors instead of a ripper. If you use a seam ripper start on one end of the buttonhole and only do a little bit then go to the other end of the hole and start again until you meet the rest of what you ripped.

When ripping a regular seam do not try to rip quickly as if you are zipping through wrapping paper with new scissors (although that can be fun LOL), instead pull the seam apart gently and rip a couple of stitches at a time.
If you have a seam that is put together by a chain stitch find the end where you can pull the chain freely and you only have to rip the first stitch or two.

I don't rip seams with a seam ripper. Actually I hardly ever use a seam ripper anymore. Too many accidents in the past. I use an awl and pull the stitches out. It takes a little longer but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I pick out just enough of the seam to get a good hold of the two pieces of fabric and then I pull the stitches out. Couldn't survive without my awls. For button holes which I hate, I use an exacto knife and cut from the ends toward the middle.

First your snaps & now your seam! Are you coming apart? Oh, how many times I have ripped what I didn't mean to!! Tks to you gals for some suggestions! So simple & it never entered my mind! Glad it will be covered, Monica!

Just get a sharp pair of embroidery scissors...they have a sharp point...HIDE the ripper...and QUIT PULLING threads!!! UNstitch...or snip between the stitches....I find that a tweezers close by keeps me from pulling on threads that I shouldn't:)
