Well, sometimes I do. The reason that I would is so that I can place more than one design and get them all exactly where I want them. After I'm done, I shred them and put it in the recycling bin.;)

I do my templates on plastic when I know I will use them again and on paper for a once only I am a horder so I keep everything

Monica, I will print them - if it has alot of color changes - that are different on my machine that was originally called for - or as Jerrilyn says - when I am placing more than one design or two or more of the same one. I very seldom keep them - I did when I was new - I put them in a binder - then the binder became two and I realized that maybe only one or two of them ever got used a second or third time - so I recycled them all and now I do that with each one. What do you do? *4U

It depends on my project. If the placement needs to be exact I will print a template, and if it's a design I'll be using again I'll keep it. I used to print colour charts too, but now the computer is next to the sewing machine I just have the design open on the computer while I am sewing.

Only print the template if I need it for placement--like everything else I print, flip the paper over and use again before throwing out. I haven't been stitching out the same design more than once, so no reason to keep them. File? I can't even organize my designs :)

I only print the ones I digitized myself, and the only those that I will use again or post on my website if I ever get one. I keep those in a binder with the stitch-out.

Monica, I print as little as possible due to the cost of the ink. I did print one out for placement on a sweatshirt, because the design needed to exactly cover a bleach spot. And of course the design I chose was one with fussy edges, and barely big enough to cover the spot, hee hee hee. Otherwise, I have the design open in Digitizer Pro, my laptop by my machine, and I use that for the color changes, etc. If it would be a design I was going to use a lot of times, perhaps a pocket logo on shirts, for example, where the placement is critical, I'd print it out & save it. I print out so I can see what the design is before I go looking for it. Maybe someday I will find I have two many and will stop that..........who knows....ha ha

Monica, I print my designs for the colour change, because some of the designs don't show the colour change on my machine. Love Marie.

I print and file in a binder with the color change sheet. Drives my techie hubby crazy since I have the digital file already. Fortunately he endures my paper obsession and snickers at the pile I leave on the printer downstairs awaiting my trip to file them.

I only do them when I'm going to need them for placement on a garment or article I need exact placement on. I do not save them but I do use both side of the paper. when both sides have been used I shred. Here's a little tip I put shredded paper in the bottoms of my flower boxes , wet it then add fresh potting soil every spring. the shredded paper helps hold moisture & keeps me from watering frequently. I also use it this way in real large pots that you would have a small tree in or a bush. *

Monica, I print out the design & color changes when I am going to sew a file out. My computer & machine are not anywhere near each other & I'd run myself ragged running back & forth! I write on the print out any notes about the file, what each color is in case I want to change it the next time I stitch it (as hair color, dress color, etc) Then I file them in a doc. plastic sleeve that I put in a 3 ring notebook. They are in sorta order...bears, flowers, etc. I do have a seperate book for holidays, etc. Do I use them. Yes, I have. Not ALL of them, but they do come in handy when I want to put the same design on another thing. I can trace around the outline of the design onto a plastic thing that came with my hoop, so I can use that to do a placement.

I also print out a large portion of the designs but not all of them. I just like brosing through the printed copies. They are placed in notebooks by topics. My software doesn't alway translate the colors as the original so I use them as check off sheets for stitching. For alphabets, many times, I'll cut and paste as many on one page as possible especially if the designs are basically the same with minor changes.
