Dear Marthie, it has to be recharged :) Just expose them to a bright light and it should glow. It will fade after few hours. It seems that brand like Coats and Clark retain their glow for up to 15 hours.

If you hold the item close to a light bulb for a few minutes..then you should be able to check it in a dark closet!!

Marthie, the Coats and Clark, like Yoriko said, is wonderful and does retain the glow for a long time. I used it on my gkids blankets (put their names on them and outlined the name with the glow in the dark) and it did fantastic...Unless what you have may be bad, I don't know...

You need to let is soak up some light..natural or artificial for a bit...in other words..sit it in the sun or under a lamp for a while..brighter is better then go in a dark spot and shazammmm it should glow for you

if you think something is wrong write to the place you ordered it from and telll them. What is said below should work.

If it doesn't glow after the light bulb trick...then I do think there is a problem...the stuff I have glows on the spool after I turn off the light.
