On my DH's laptop right now. But I don't have my 3D on this one & I can't do a thing! off to the computer doctor Mon. & HOPE he can fix it all! what a pain! I had just defragged today, & scans run often & never find anything. But it's a black screen after a message that came up ONCE. I wrote it down for the computer man. I am so lost where computers are concerned! AND my computer is NOT Visa, so I don't want a new computer!

Oh Geez! I sure hope you get everything worked out! Computer issues are certainly a pain! And I can't blame you for wanting a new computer if it means getting stuck with Vista. BUT...Windows is supposed to be coming ot with their new operating system soon. Some time in October, I think.

Windows 7 is coming October 22.
I have Windows 7 and it is wonderful. Have not yet found a program that is not compatible. Definately not another Vista!

Sorry to hear this. You know only in the last few days I read this...'when your computer crashes' not 'if you computer crashes' it was like a warning to us....it is only a matter of time huh....
Ok so now I better back all my stuff up and take my own advice....I have bought a new external hard drive, now how do I put my stuff on it, better go read the book.....

Why did you join a group that you didn't want to join? How did that have anything to do with you PC crash or is it the cause of it or what? I am so sorry - that you had this difficulity - good thing that you had the sense to back and and defrag. You don't have to buy Vista - just because that is what they are selling - make it known that it doesn't work with your design files and ask for a Windows or wait for the next version - it should be our soon. In Australia it is the law that you must get a copy of all pre-installed software that comes with a pc/laptop when you purchase it.
So, If you have Windows XP installed on your computer, you should also have the Software CD to re-install it, just make sure (if you are so unlucky as to need a new computer) that it is XP compatible and NOT designed specifically for Vista.
Why don't you install your 3D software on DH's laptop? It's only temporary so surely he won't mind???

Am afraid it's the whole system. I have all the disks that came with the computer, but am afraid I'm going to lose all the partical alphas I had in a folder on the desktop. I'll see. This laptop is actually the property of a small non profit group he does volunteer bookkeeping for & I don't want to put anything on someone elses' computer. Don't mind checking email, etc. I do have an OLD laptop that I will try to install 3D on if it's going to be a while. But it doesn't have any internet connections.
