Deanna, you're amazing! And of course you know it's not really about the 'blankie', but about the way you listened to his choice and allowed it, didn't put it aside with 'this would be better'. You took your time to make it just for him, and kept your promise that it would be there. So it's your love and respect he's wrapped in, not just a blankie. Deanna, I so cherish the work you do and love you give to these kids...Oh, my I wish I had the chance to do it again. After having grandchildren, I so can see the many times I corrected my children or did it "my way" because it was better..when all they wanted was the time with me..I too, make a blanket for may gson several months ago. No squares, just a large peice of Bob the Builder fabric, filling and a backing..He did get his name embroidered on the front outlined in glow in the dark thread. The edges are even surged so that I could get it done by bedtime..He loves his blankest..Out of all of the gkids, he loves them the most..With Mom gone now, I guess I have the time to do the girls one before I have to start looking for a job (Yuch)...Yes, the simple pleasures are what a child is sent to us to remember..They bring is all back into perspective. I know you are their Hero, as well you should be. Oh, the love that you gain from them, has to be so awesome, so fullfilling. YOU ROCK, LADY...

I love the way you devote yourself to 'your' kids. That's what really matters to them: love and attention and getting the feeling they are special. And boy, do you make them feel special with a quilt of their own, in fabric and colours they choose. You are such a loving person!! Thanks for sharing this story with us.

Probably no one has offered to do much for him in the past and he was making sure that he got what he wanted. It is a great piece from you. are you going to teach him how to sew? I have just made a bargain with a lad I work with that if he reaches the set target we agreed on I will embroider a small skull from Urban Threads for him. I admire you for being there and following through for each and every one. These children need to know that they can trust and depend on everything that you say and do. If they had a good family life they would not need you to pull them through the insecurity and distrust that they feel right now. It is sad to say but there are very many children out there that have no one that they can depend on. It does not keep them from loving their parents but it does leave a void inside that they never outgrow. These children that are placed in loving homes like yours are the lucky ones that learn to trust. It takes time but they do find out that some adults do what they promise. I want to thank you with all my heart for being that strong person that can handle the wayward ones and show them that they are loved and cared about. All they really need is someone they can trust and that cares about them. It does take someone very special to do what you do. It comes from within. May God always give you the strength and the loving knowledge to show these children the way a true and and loving home should be. Deanna, what you do is a talent from your heart. Again, thank you so much for caring and doing something about it!

I am so glad I've gotten to know you Deanna. You are an inspiration to all of us and I wish I could have half the patience you have in rearing children yours and other people's children.
