I think it depends on where you live, and what the traffic will bear. If you live in a city, you can charge more than in a rural area. If you are doing a specially commissioned project, you can charge more for that than for the same thing at a craft show, most likely. If you tell us where you are, and what you can sell, maybe some of the gals who do more sales can give you a better idea. If someone has inquired if you would sell something of yours that they've seen, they'd probably pay what it's worth (unless they're a relative, then they'll expect you to offer it to them for free, hee hee hee. Just kidding, girls, just kidding). Make sure you get the cost of the materials, thread, stabilizer, bobbin thread, everything you can think of, you have to at least cover your costs. Then see how much profit you want from there. Some charge by the number of stitches, some by how complicated a design is, number of color changes, etc. Just FYI, Tajima Pulse Ambassador, free download, has a function where you can put in how much you want to charge per say 1000 stitches, and it'll calculate what the design should cost. Good question I have sold some things and I am sure I did not charge enough. But then I have a lady that asked me to do 2 different college names on several pieces and these were block style letters aproximately 2" high with six to seven letters each and I told her $5 dollars each. She then replied that this other lady would do them for $2. each I said well I can't do that it's not cost effective for my thread and time. She was a little upset so I said sorry but I guess you better stick with the lady that has been doing them. You know just because we enjoy doing it doesn't mean we have to be charity for everyone. If I want to do it for free it's up to me. So I like you am not sure what to charge. I know shops get more than I do. I know what I have said doesn't really help a lot, but I am not quite sure either. Sara

Marjie has given u some wise info. I usually charge what I think the person can pay. Mostly from 75 cents up to a$1.50 per 1000 stitches. Depends on how many color changes & how difficult it is. I only do things for people who ask me to do them so I feel I can ask whatever. Marji is right about fmly though, they want u to do it for free. Look around at craft shows & see what others are charging. this will give u an idea of what to charge. *
