I would recommend learning ALL you can about stablizers (which one to use and when) also learn about needles,,,THEN HAVE SOME FUN!!!

Mine would be to never start trying to hoop towels!! Instead just hoop the stabiliser, then position the towel etc on top after the hoop is together and use pins then a basting stitch around the inner edge to hold the towel and a water soluble top stabiliser onto the hooped stabiliser.

Well Dealers, stabilizers and needles have already been mentioned. I think I'd say there are NO hard and fast rules. What works for me may not work for you. Even 2 people with the same machine can't always do the exact same thing the exact same way. The Tips and Suggestions are just that. Try them all, find what works for you and run with it.

I would tell them to never be afraid to ask any question they need help with here at "Cute". There are no dumb questions. I do know some site's will kick you off the site if they do not like the question you ask without even telling you why, or giving you a chance to explain your side of a situation. I have never seen that happen here. Thanks H&*.

I agree with dlmds, they need to know that no question they ask is silly or"dumb" as some of them say. If u don't know it u need to ask, we have all been there & I'm still there LOL. Important thing is I know I can come to Cutes & someone will have an answer for me. *

ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR EMBROIDERY DOWNLOADS!!!

I have read far too many stories recently of how our CUTIES have lost all their designs. Make sure you have good USB's or CD's to transfer all your designs onto. Or another computer, another hard-drive etc.

AND ALWAYS HAVE GOOD STABILISER!!

Do not be afraid to ask !!!!! I have solved so many problems by just reading questions and answers from all the cuties here on Cute. There is always someone willing to share a good answer.

My first advice would be not to rush out downloading every free design on offer, as visiting many strange websites puts you at risk of picking up viruses, trojans and spyware.

Make sure you have 'up to date' virus protection and pay the yearly fee so you can get regular virus updates.

Next would be NOT to rely on USB sticks/flash drives to store your valuable designs. They have a high failure rate, they can also break without warning and they can become corrupt for no reason.
Just ask NurseLily about her recent experience. Copy your designs regularly to Blank CD's and an external drive. You should always have at least three copies of any valuable files because nothing lasts forever.

another thing I do not see mentioned is be sure to read your entire manual that comes with your machine. you will pick up lots of good information

My advice is don't get discouraged. We are making home made projects, and no two things are ever going to be exactly alike. The love that is put into each article is what makes our work special.

Learn to walk away when things are not going well, have another try after you have had a cupa lol.

My advice to those new to machine embroidery is not to spend a lot of money on designs before checking out cuteembroidery.com. Then gather some freebies and test stitch. I don't know if any of them took my advice; if they did, they are still quietly looking and haven't spoke up yet.

Cut yourself some slack. Everyone has/had a learning curve. Do what you love and love what you do.;)

My advice would be to take time with projects and realize that you NEVER stop learning! Enjoy your hobby, it can be a great source of stress relief...especially if you have "Cuties" to help you along the way as I have. Welcome all!

I think everything good was commented here. My advice would be to learn where are the good quality designs, so you don't ruin your project, and back up your precious designs regularly in a safe device. Of course, enjoy what you do :) Very good post Caroline-san! Love,Yoriko

Well there has been so many good advice tips/ comments already. I will add, don't leave your sewing machine unattended, always stay close by, so if something goes wrong with the stitching you are close to switch the machine off and sort the problem out, before major problems occur. Hugs Yvonne

well enjoy making an embroidery, never leave your machine during emb, some machines are afraid we abandon them and get a will of theit own. and try all kind of things so also the applique, crossstitch and FSL.and make a backup of your designs in case your PC gets his own will too.But most of all: have Fun and show us your results.

Don't buy truly 'cheap' embroidery products, whether they are designs, stabilizer, thread, etc. Getting 'good' stuff on sale is wonderful, stock up then. If you haven't tried a certain brand of thread, and it's a good deal, just get a couple of spools to see how it works in your machine before you buy the whole 200 reel set! It may be 'good' thread that's sold cheaply for some reason, or it may be 'cheap' thread that you're going to end up giving to the birds to make nests with in the spring. Ask the Cuties, somebody'll know, whatever the question is!! And have fun!! Hugs, Marji
