Sorry, but this has been playing on my mind for quite some time & I decided to go see if I could find out what the big thing is with "Red Hats". I maybe a bit behind on what goes on sometimes but until I first started going on the net looking for freebies/patterns for embroidery for sale & the alike (even some graphics) I have wondered to myself about this as I don't think we do it in Australia...I maybe wrong there too, I'm not quite 50yrs old yet. So for those that are like me & wonder about wierd things like this, I went searching & found some info. I thought I'd share with everyone to what I found out... It DOES sound fun though... maybe it will be popular in Australia one day too.

Thanks for the Wikipedia reference, Reggie! I'm in the USA, more familiar with the Red Hat culture, but I never realized it was started totally by accident! How cool! Also, I think Wikipedia should get a Nobel Prize or something, it's one of the greatest things the World Wide Web has ever produced. Re: Red Hatters not being popular in Australia (yet), well, Reg, from learning to know some of you through this site and others, I think you Aussies live your whole lives in Red Hat mode! Mad Hatters...lol. Yes we don't hold back, & we are always there to have fun, help a friend or stranger. I often get people I don't know from "a bar of soap" come up & ask all sorts of questions, I have had to build a wall (imaginery) to slow down or stop people from doing it sometimes, as they can tend to absorb energy, leaving me drained... I bet there are a few of you that have the same thing happen.

Just FYI .. I'm a Red Hatter, and each group (in the USA) do their own thing. Some groups quilt, some groups only go out and eat, some groups are volunteer for different things, and there are many, many other activities. Once our group made jewelry, and once we made post cards. If you don't want to participate in a certain activity, or can't make it, no big deal. Lot of fun. Those not 50 yet are called Pink Hatters, and they can be part of your group. You can start your own group if you want to ... you set the rules. And a *4U for asking.

It is here in Australia Reggie. We had a group of Redhat ladies come to Penrith Tenpin Bowl and enjoy a bowling afternoon together. I was so tempted to go up and ask them all about it, but was busy bowling league and they left before our league finish bowling.
They were all dressed up with gorgeous red hats and most of them wore some shade of purple with them. A truly fabulous combination.
You could try looking them up in the Yellow Pages under organisations, clubs, or maybe the local Community Service may have info.

Thankyou SOOOOOOOOOO much ladies, I am for a couple of years a pink hat if I joined...lol. I will look into this though, funny thing is I have never heard of it & I was country girl & a city girl in Australia. worked in many restaurants, gone to different groups over the years.. come on the internet & find out they are everywhere.....lol
